From the Director of Saw 2, 3, & 4 comes an even scarier film, a story that is not only brutal, but also entirely possible. Three recently released prisoners are back to their old tricks, as they have just robbed a bank and escaped a shoot out with the police. With no where else to go, they flee to a familiar place, their mother's house, only while they were away, she lost that house to the bank and it had been re-sold. The trio stumbles right into the new owners house warming party and quickly take them as hostages. These boys are brutal, but they aren't very smart, not knowing what the next step is, they do they only thing they can think of and call their dear old mother for advice. Mother's Day is your typical film about hostages held at bay, trying to escape the brutal hold of their captors, with one exception, Rebecca De Mornay, a veteran actress of these types of films. De Mornay's is the one who raised these monsters, but she's also the voice of reason, with a cool calm demeanor, that will send a chill down your spine. Her performance in this film is what takes a simple hostage film and turns it into something deeper, darker, and more sinister. Of course a film like this isn't without it's flaws, as it is extremely predictable. They throw in all the things you would expect to see in a film about a hostage situation, and outside of the named actors you recognize, the rest of the cast, wasn't very good. That being said, I really enjoyed the triple dynamic between mother, psychopathic children, and the hostages, aside from that, this film was pretty much forgettable.

Its filled with sadism and for 80% of the film you are really mad at the injustice the victim suffer with little pay back at the end it... This film just got me mad and most actions don't really make sense and not much background on what is happening, a lot of it is just violence for the sake of violence... I love horror films but this was crap. On the up side acting was fine and direction was good and plenty of violence and gore... This film last close to 2 hours.. Way to long for what it offers... The motive of the bad guys was bad and the motive of the good guy was bad as well... And the end makes no sense its just ridiculous also wtf do they really have to give more bad credit to realestate agents haha... Fkn dumb movie not believable...

This isn't a straight remake of Charles Kaufman's 1980 cult favorite Mother's Day. Bousman & his Co. what did here is sometimes what we can regard as "re-imagining" an idea or plot. The premise and even the characters are almost significantly different here as the redneck family in the woods replaced by an extended family of criminals under the influence of a psycho-Mom and instead of having just 2 boys, this time mommy dearest got three sons and a daughter! So it all started when after a bank robbery gone wrong, three brothers on the run from the law head for home, not knowing that their mother has already been evicted from the house. The new owners and their guests, gathered for an ill-timed birthday party, become the brothers' accidental hostages. As one of the brothers is already wounded; one of the hostages, a doctor, he is forced to treat him. And later the brothers' mother, the cold blooded gang leader, and their sister arrive. The way Bousman's version quickly set off to unfold the whole scenario I really started to appreciate & like the film as it progress with good pace & violence. But then, probably after the first-third or half, to make more than an 1 & half hour long film out of a hardly 60 minute story line, it really becomes an excuse to pit the hostages against one another. Forcing them to fight among themselves under imposed scenarios along the lines like "we will kill you both unless one of you kills the other first" not only grows tedious within the confines of the film, but it reminds that even when Mr. Bousman already left the SAW franchise, the tired Jigsaw twisty-tricks are still, intentionally or not, pretty much alive on his mind with the same old question..."what would you do or how far you would go to survive?" Thus, although having a fine premise & cast, it becomes bit annoying in few funny & stupid moments. And last but not the least, the ending! And that was the major disappointment. Overall, only considering the gore, violence & the pace of the film it was fairly entertaining. Worth a watch.

One of those films that starts out like one of the worst ever, but by the brutal conclusion it actually turns out to be okay. You have to possess a pretty strong stomach for some of the content, which includes impalings, exploding heads and scalpings. But if you're a bit of a sicko like moi (don't tell my doctors) you'll fit right in, as well as appreciate some of the effective use of psychological tension throughout. The screenplay isn't vaguely believable, and some of the line readings will make you wince. But as a completely OTT horror is does the job, and De Mornay makes a great super-bitch. Nothing special, but worth a shot. 5/10
