Synopsis

MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH is a short film released by Kevin Tancharoen (Director) in 2010. It was originally made as a proof of concept for Tancharoen's pitch to Warner Brothers for a reboot movie franchise. This 8-minute short features an intricate fight scene choreographed by Larnell Stovall. It also reintroduces classic Mortal Kombat characters, including: Jax (Michael Jai White), Sonya Blade (Jeri Ryan), Johnny Cage (Matt Mullins), Scorpion (Ian Anthony Dale), Baraka (Lateef Crowder) and Shang Tsung (James Lew).

ws_wilsonhire Yes there are realistic elements here, but most negative comments mentioned are purely assumption. There wasn't anything said about no super natural elements being added at all, nor is Shang Tsung said to be some Mob Boss. Ever considered that an Earth Realm cover? Of course you haven't. The additions of realistic elements makes the concept so much more intense, more relatable, and likely the fantasy elements is what contributing to making the former movies so lame. This is an amazing concept (and considering it's less than 10 minutes, there isn't much too assume here), that makes Mortal Kombat in any film form return to it's gory, intense roots. Whatever they need to do to actually make a crazy, violent MK, is fine by me. I cannot wait for the Web Series to come out, then when that hits it off, somebody get's the balls to actually make a kick ass movie from this (or maybe a Starz or HBO series similar to Sparticus, minus the lame Roman stuff).OH and by the way for you slow people, I guess you didn't notice that "Scorpion" had no eyes in this? Most likely not.
mikeyvwj Everyone who said this was retarded need to get their head out of the nerdy fantasy world of their's. This realistic based MK movie looks bad-ass. If you didn't see, Sub Zero's face was flashed for 1 sec during the video. And he looked bad-ass. Not some idiot walking around with dirty ice tanks... And Scorpion as a top assassin is also bad-ass, Legend of Zelda's Link's Hookshot, but with blood. They even gave Scopion his famous white eyes. So yeah, this movie could be really bad-ass, or bad. So everyone will have to wait and see in the future how the movie will come out. For now you don't need to being saying this was retarded you retard! I'm sure if you directed a movie based on a video game it would totally the best movie ever! So why don't you go and do just that?
Costellog83 What can I say, it looks interesting, but twisting the whole story line towards a more "realistic" approach is a retarded idea. Mortal Kombat is meant to be far fetched.. with thunder gods and mutants.. coming up with doctors gone made (who are martial artists ofc) etc wont work. They tried it with that GOD AWFUL Street fighter movie, and it will not work with this one either. The 1st Mortal Kombat movie almost had it right, but still kinda failed as they made it cheesy with a poor plot. X-men 1&2 is a fine example where they got it right, although a little far fetched it was still believable while being easy to follow. You can make a movie with gods, mutants and assassins without trying to make it "real life" as this trailer attempts, and in my opinion fails. +4 stars for the effort -6 for the idea
fredfredburger8431 So I noticed that there are a lot of people who have never heard of Mortal Kombat before, so I figured I would maybe help you people out. This is awful!!!!!! It has nothing to do, with anything, about MK (Mortal Kombat). Not only that but the acting already looks awful and that's just from what you can see in the 8 minute clip. I can't wait to see Sub-Zero all realistic, he will probably be walking around with a pack on his back throwing dry ice on people, such a bad ass. Is Shang Tsung going to just be Buffalo Bill and instead of taking souls he will just wear there skin? Anyone notice that Liu Kang's name doesn't seem to be anywhere? Not that the biggest character of the entire history of MK is needed, but don't worry Raiden was left out too. For those of you who have actually played the games (everyone who hates this film) imagine if they took out everything unrealistic about it, like the cool fatalities, and every fun ability the different characters have and you would be left with just punch, kick, grapple. No one would play it! So I guess they will be getting rid of the gods that play a huge part in MK, also It can't be held in Outworld anymore, and since it's not a tournament to save earth from Shang Tsung or Shao-Kahn what is the purpose of all this crap? This film makes me mad because I have been looking forward to it for years now since it was rumored on a MK fan site they were starting to look for actors to play the parts. Also in the clip where Baraka fights Cage why doesn't he just use his swords he has attached to his arms? It's like "Oh Crap! I completely forgot I did that to myself, I should just cut his head off." The only thing that this movie did was steal the names from one of the greatest games ever and put it into some low budget film with bad acting and call it Mortal Kombat....
