It is a rare day I give any movie a 10...any movie. I remember being leery of this movie via the previews that started out as a good story but then turned to the quirky characters. The main characters, however, are warm and genuine and very real. I just happened to catch it on TNT, and I was so taken by the story that I had to write. This movie plugs into Tyler Perry's "Madea" franchise, but only on the very edges. Based on the quality of this story, which comes from Perry's original play of the same name, I now feel I will have to watch some more of his work. The story has several sections...I was happy that just as I felt the story might be winding down that yet another story segment shows up. It is truly a sweet, warm, funny, and ultimately rewarding story, and feels complete and well-rounded. The underlying themes of family, love, strength, and forgiveness of others and self, and the strong character of the main characters, all make this a great story. Finally, my favorite character is Irma Hall's "Mildred". Here was a woman who spoke truth, represented strength and responsibility, seemed harsh at first, but turned out to be a real pillar of strength and faith. Irma fully delivered on the potential of Mildred. There are people like this in the world, and they are God's gift as fonts of wisdom and tough love.Thank you, Mr. Perry!

well I am surprised with the bad vote this movie has here. It is not the best of Tyler. But certainly not a bad movie. The movie circulated around most of the same theme as all Tyler has. Hard life, bad community, good community, how to find yourself a place in this life, how to struggle and at the end to reach to your happiness. I do really like the acting from Angela Basset. It was awesome. The film is predictable but not the message. Unfortunately Madea's part is really small. It seems that they tried to hard to squeeze her inside the film. They should work harder in the script to put more part for Madea. I really miss her thought. :-D

*** This contains spoilers. *** Imagine, just imagine, that Russel Crowe was cast as Tommy Boy. Or, imagine that Pee Wee Herman was cast to play Maximus in The Gladiator. MEET THE BROWNS comes with such a mismatch.Angela Bassett is a high power actress who is able to deliver Forest Whitaker level dramatics. In the first 15 minutes of MEET THE BROWNS, Angela's character is in a heartbreaking situation. Irma P. Hall is a rock solid supporting actress and helps to give the first 15 minutes its riveting drama. Then suddenly, as smooth and gentle as being blindsided by a thrown brick, MEET THE BROWNS becomes an unreal zany comedy. Then there is more drama, then there is even wilder farcical comedy. MEET THE BROWNS remains a jarring uneven mess until the end.The thing that is most sad about this film failing to deliver is that it contains such a mega-talented cast. The other thing to note is that Angela Bassett's character is an upstanding honorable person. Nice, kind and good (and she also has the beauty of a Hollywood film star). But in the movie her three previous serious boyfriends have rejected her. She keeps contacting one dumpy old boyfriend who treats her, and looks at, like she was a bag of used diapers. What? The boring men in her life have no reason to reject her, or not acknowledge her goodness, or not appreciate her beauty. In real life, her character would be the one doing the rejecting, and her old serious boyfriends would likely jump at the chance to spend time with her.A wasted effort, sad to say.

i had this misfortune of being dragged to this movie by my aunt Flo... She thought it would cheer her up after losing her pet Pomeranian to a pack of wild coyotes. This movie is about what you would expect from a light hearted romantic comedy, with one exception - it stars Tyler Perry!!! let's just cut to the chase, knowing that Tyler Perry was playing the part of "Medina" was disturbing to say the least. Apparently Tyler Perry enjoys dressing like and old woman and running around in support hose tossing out one-lines and acting like a fool... but for the rest of us, it's shear torture!!!! Tyler Perry as Medina is to comedy as a pack of coyotes is to a Pomeranian... i don't know what that means, but it's still funnier then this movie!
