goinminion This documentary has to be viewed more than once.... free falling/flying in Antarctica - I must have rewound that 20 times already. I do have one question - where are the credits for all the instrumental music in the movie? Some of these instrumentals are awesome.... the one that is playing when Shane is skiing is about as good a song I can think of to listen to floating in the powder. The only song credits listed (10 total) are for songs where someone is singing, but there are at least 9 instrumental pieces in the documentary. If someone has any idea of the title for any of these songs please forward. Thanks, and thanks for such a great production!
Craig Anderson Being a lifelong skier, I knew who Shane McConkey was, but didn't follow his pursuits all that closely. After watching this fantastic documentary about his life, I am so much more enlightened about not only what he did, but just his general approach to life. His goal was never to kill himself taking unnecessary risks, but rather keep pushing to the next level after next level, well aware of the inherent dangers. The homemade videos throughout the film provide a close-up insight into what drove Shane, and I found it deeply inspiring. He loved what he did, period. Some may criticize him for being selfish, that he abandoned a wife and young child at home, but he wasn't the type of guy that was going to sit back in the rocking chair and wait for life to pass him by. I absolutely recommend to this anyone, skiers or non-skiers alike, to witness moments with someone who was tapped into the most pure essence of fully living life.
Druid Lord Incredibly good movie/documentary. Prior to watching this I had only heard his name and the longer I watched the more I enjoyed it. Everyone involved in making this film made it wonderful to watch. The story itself is simply amazing and the footage of Shane, his family, his friends and his incredible life is unbelievably awesome to experience. I would love to see this at an IMAX theater! Some of the first person views of his jumps makes you feel like you're there. I had no idea how awesome this movie and Shane's life was. So glad I saw it and I'll certainly watch it again- it's just that good. You don't have to be interested in skiing or BASE jumping to be blown away by it either. Simply put, watch this film!!
Ziglet_mir I saw this awesome documentary at a premiere in my hometown, and I didn't know very much about the film prior to it coming out. I tell you, this is one of those films that makes you rethink your life. I did, and I kept thinking about how one man made such a crazy impact on the world. Of course, he only revolutionized skiing, but it comes down to so much more than that. Shane McConkey is a hero and a legend. I don't think I could ever do half the stuff he did, but after watching the documentary I am completely inspired to give a lot of crazy new things a shot. Watching this in a full theater was thoroughly entertaining when the funny stuff came up. Many people were on the floor laughing from McConkey's outlandish and spontaneous behavior, and even though the movie ends on a relatively sad note, you can't help but smile when you think back on the larger-than-life personality the last hour and forty minutes entertained you with. I highly recommend this venture, especially if you're looking for gorgeous views, intense winter sports, a high-profile bio, and a great story. Also, one helluva soundtrack.See ya!
