niyaspb One of the most realistic movie of the time . Realistic conversations . You come away with a good feeling after watching this movie. Many of the scenes are thought provoking and easy to relate to.Anybody in their late thirties or early forties can relate to the nostalgia surrounding the reunion of friends. The only song (thankfully) has only a guitar and keyboard as accompaniment. The song is wonderfully composed and melodious.Bertie Wooster would've summed up: Good Egg. No doubt laid by contented hens. The women stretched their performances a bit I feel. One does feel that some parts, especially the wives, were a little overacted. The location where most of the movie was shot at is breathtaking but more justice could've been done to it.Many of the shots were wasted in the dull interiors of the resort.Must watch.
PimpinAinttEasy Dear Bash Mohammed and Gafoor Arackkal, first of all, a big cheers to you guys. While watching your movie, I was telling myself - these guys know a thing or two about the alcoholic Malayali male psyche. Your film basically says that if they had a choice, most Malayali males would be at a bar being drunk slobs rather than leading responsible lives as husbands/fathers. Nothing could be closer to the truth.Drama and intrigue at a reunion of 35 year college friends and their wives is half a good idea. I say half a good idea because .....well, why include the ladies? Who brings the wife to a "vellamadi"/drinking party? I guess there would be no movie without the female characters. You did say in your interview that this was a family drama. Though, while watching this, I got the impression that you wanted to say something more about disillusioned and stressed out middle aged Malayali males, but was probably constrained by commercial concerns. My encomiums end here. The realistic vibe with no background score does not work. The cinematography was also quite unimaginative, you could have used more close ups. It does not help that Jayasurya is mumbling most of the time. The dialogs were quite superficial. You seem to have started off making a dark movie about alcoholic males but it turns into a pretty goofy comedic drama somewhere in the middle with people jumping into the swimming pool and all. The first 20 minutes are at odds with the rest of the film in terms of style. And what is it with Murali Gopi taking off his shirt in every single movie that he is in? Why does he have to show off his hirsute body in every damn film? What is it with the guy? Is he making a style statement or something? But him and Jayasurya were pretty good. And why does the Muslim woman refuse alcohol? Her husband seemed to be liberal enough with the alcohol drinking. I guess you didn't really want to go there, right? A bit of a cop out considering that you made the Christian priest have a drink. But Muthumani did a good job as the tough Muslim woman.Indran's entry was not required at all. Who eats Uniappam while drinking alcohol? Anyway, it was not a bad film. A bit boring at times. But I decided to give it a decent rating since I identify with the hard drinkers in the film. It is another one of those adult dramas like Ee Adutha Kalathu and Vedivazhipadu. But not as good. But I'll definitely watch the next film that you guys make.Best Regards, Pimpin.(6/10)
