My family and I had a great time watching this together. We thought it was very clever and, unlike a lot of the comedy stuff on TV these days (e.g. Friends), it was watchable with kids without a lot of wincing and embarrassment. All of the "rules" really rang true to us. It was also remarkable how we were able to relate so many of the film's characters to our own friends and family! We're anxiously awaiting the sequel -- hopefully it's in the works. In the meantime, this one is on "permanent save" on our Tivo.BB

Unfortunately, it doesn't pack a strong punch. This movie isn't dreadful or anything but it does not hold your interest-I read two thick magazines front to back during the coarse of the movie. The problems are:this whole concept has been done before and just been done in a wittier way. I am not a major fan of Betsy's wedding(not exactly the same concept but they both have that "wedding about to go wrong" thing) BUT that movie did have a certain sweetness to it-it was cute. This is basically a movie about two people about to get married who become convinced married life will bring them down-each has friends telling them how awful married life will be and all the bad surprises they might expect once the deed is completed. It's not at all funny though, the movie limps along as the couple in question get more and more depressed....I'm not sure what exactly went arong but the word that comes to mind is "bland" Not a terrible movie, not unwatchable just-bland and also somewhat forced. The two leads had no chemistry anyway and the "friends" and their advice-which may have been meant to be funny-was yawn provoking. I'd say this movie is about a 5 because I did at least get through it without completely hating it or anything but....not high on my list of see agains.

Watching this movie was "work" with no "love"("work of love" reference). Avoid watching this movie. It is neither romantic, nor funny, nor real. Lawrence was his natural obnoxious himself. Lawson was plane Jane as usual. And with chemistry nonexistent, writing out of dump, story hitting every bad cliché in the book and bad supporting cast this movie is a painful experience for most of viewers. I am sure. Somebody mentioned "Brave new Girl" before. Lets just say "Brave new Girl" and "Celeste in the City"(two previous ABC Family films) are thousand times better than "Love Rules". So if you had some bad experience with previous ABC Family movies, avoid this one at all cost.
