micheyns Whatever happened to the well-made plot? This series just chucks one gasp-gasp episode on top of another, with no attempt even to suggest they might be relevant to each other. Sure, there's a story line of sorts, and it's all 'explained', clearly hoping that the viewer is so gobsmacked that s/he has forgotten about all the loose plot threads dangling all over the show. That said, some good performances from actors who shouldn't be wasting their talents on this hogwash. But I suppose times are hard for the likes of Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling. But Ben Whishaw could surely land something better than this.
Marie Morgan I'll watch almost anything British. It often takes a while for the story and characters evolve so I know to be patient and just enjoy the journey. The journey here, after a boring 30 minutes or so, led to two men having sex. The boring continued through the episode and the next until I decided there just wasn't anything else. If that's what you like in a movie, you'll like this. Judging from the absolutely glowing, gushing reviews, there must be a wide audience for boring gay porn.
eshens Thriller, suspense etc are the kind of things I like and for the same reason, I chose to watch London Spy. To my surprise, it turned out to be a love story and a very good one, thanks to Ben Whishaw. Some reviews have a strong feeling against the sex scene, I actually found it beautiful. The scene did not disgust me at all. By the way, I am a 60+ senior citizen, Asian, female, grew up in Taiwan, not a gay (but with an open mind to accept all things).I recognize all the actors from other places except Edward Holcroft (Alex). They all are perfect for their parts. The good acting and the good plots make it a very good show. Yes, episode 1 is slow, I kept thinking who the spy is? It gets more intense as I go along. To me, it is a love story laced with a spy story, a wonderful bonus every which way I look at it! You won't disappoint. I promise you.
WVfilmfem The acting is good, but this is really not so much a spy thriller as a gay love story. If this is what you are looking for, you'll like it, including the gay sex scenes. The entertainment industry foists gratuitous sex, both hetero and homo on the viewing public. I, for one, will not watch. My previous review was deleted...for saying this? It seems NF has editors of reviews who aspire to their own agenda.
