Uriah43 This sequel takes up one week after its predecessor "Left Behind" ended with the anti-Christ, "Nicholae Carpathia" (Gordon Currie) moving fast to consolidate his power. Realizing from Biblical prophecy what must happen, a small group of Christians band together to spread the gospel with what little time they have remaining. On that same note, Nicholae Carpathia also has only a limited time as well and he wants to prevent everything that doesn't further his agenda from taking root. Anyway, rather than reveal the details and possibly ruin the movie for those who haven't seen it I will just say that this film is even better than the original in that it has more drama and suspense. I do think, however, that a person should see the first movie before watching this one so that they will be able to fully understand what is going on. Likewise, as I have said before, it isn't necessary to believe or agree with all of the issues raised by films like these. All that is necessary to enjoy it is to have a capacity to respect the beliefs of others even if their beliefs are different than yours. In any case, I think this movie is definitely above average and I have rated it accordingly.
ofumalow I can appreciate that evangelical, rapture-focused Christians want their own entertainment, and that said entertainment probably won't have major-studio-level production resources to call upon. But this attempt to mix sermon and action-movie conventions panders so much to its audience--there are token minority characters, but the principals are thoroughly WASPy- -that genuine evangelical intent is hard to swallow. (Just check out the director's resume to see how deep his faith-based focus is.) Christians of other ethnicities, let alone nationalities, are pretty well ignored. The antichrist is a stereotypical evil Russian mogul, as in so many mainstream genre flicks of recent years. If Jesus is coming back, surely he won't be so exclusively concerned with middle-class U.S. whites. (This even extends to soldiers protecting the Wailing Wall under orders--our heroes' angelic protectors fry the poor guys via fireballs radiating from their eyes. So, God views them as sinners?) This movie (among others like it) preaches to the target audience by suggesting the people who will primarily be saved--and are most worthy of God's direct interventions in End Times--are those just like "us." Meaning just like the film's mostly Caucasian, mostly Heartland consumers. This earnest yet cheesy middle-chapter in the "Left Behind" saga ends on a wimpy note that practically requires follow-up. As indeed it got.
krommenaas Some story lines differ quite a lot from the book, but these changes are definitely improvements. For example, the movie makes the anti-Christ's relation with the Christian protagonists seem somewhat less absurd, and leaving out most of the cheesy love story helps keep up the pace. Still, this remains comical pulp with completely implausible behaviour by all non-Christian characters, a ridiculous portrayal of the United Nations and a terribly insulting view on Jews. Only the most naive christians will like this; for others it offers a great view into the minds of said christians.Unlike other reviewers I thought most of the actors did a fine job, considering the material.
Chosen_Chick_01 What can one say about this movie but "WOW!" All the actors return--an amazing feat for a sequel--and Kirk and Janaya do another bang-up job as Buck and Chloe! (I really like these two; what can I say?!) And of course the religious aspects are awesome and moving! The most powerful part of the film was the scene where Buck and Tsion Ben-Judah are trying to get past the guards to see the witnesses at the Wailing Wall as Rayford watches from the shadows. Suddenly, an angelic girl speaks to him, takes his hand, and he leads her forward as she begins to sing "Amazing Grace." It very nearly brought me to tears. And then to listen to the witnesses speak... It just really reconfirmed my faith more than ever. Thank you, Cloud Ten Pictures, for making this movie so awesome and even better than the first one! God Bless, Amanda
