This is an Inspector short from DePatie-Freleng. There will be spoilers ahead:There are challenges to doing a series of shorts with a one dimensional character. The shorts tend to become predictable, for one thing. When one of the heads of production also happens to be one of the best and longest-serving directors in the history of short animation (Friz Freleng) another problem is that gags from earlier days also get recycled. Parts of this read like at least one old Daffy Duck short with a very similar premise. This short does have its moments. The first gag is familiar but good and there's an old chestnut which gets a new twist to the payoff that's great. But these shorts even occasionally recycle stuff from other Inspector shorts (if The Inspector starts meowing to trick someone/something, there will be other dogs attracted).Still, any short with a Great Dane named "Tiny" is worth watching. The Inspector ultimately accomplishes his task, goes on a vacation of sorts and all is right with the world (almost). This short is on the second of two DVDs of Inspector shorts which contain the 34 shorts in the series. The DVDs are well worth getting.
