Ty Jensen Vin Diesel was my reason for seeing this and it was worthy. This movie is average on the good side, it's worth watching once and I don't think I'll watch this again. The premise is a gangster loses money at a small town airport so his three friends travel there to help him find the money so they won't get killed.Barry Pepper is the lead, he plays Matty, I forgot his last name, it's not important, the son of a New York Mafia under boss. He wants to become a citizen, have a normal life but he can't because no one wants to hire him because of his father. He's likable, he's an anti-hero who wants to do his job and not hurt anyone. Vin Diesel plays a tough guy, a muscular guy named Taylor. The character may be a typical Vin Diesel character but he isn't one dimensional. Seth Green plays Johnny Marbles, the guy who lost the money. He's paranoid, he naturally wants to make up for his error and he's supposed to be a funny character. Yes the acting is great, in fact that's the bread and butter or cherry.According to a few other reviews here this movie has some subtle dark humour. The humour sucked for me, maybe a few jokes will make me laugh if and when I'll watch this again. The movie's pace is fine, I never felt bored and anyone can find the first half hour slow. There are a few weak surprises and no I won't spoil them. Don't expect a lot of action or violence, maybe every movie store chain labelled this as an action movie. It's weird the Ocean movies are labelled that way and the first Pirates movie is labelled as a drama. This movie is an okay time killer, it's worth renting or watching on TV which I did.
kankawin25013 Knockaround Guys is a crime film about the four sons of the big mobster who have to involve in the serious situation, their father's money. At first, I am "very" very surprised that Vin Diesel received the supporting role as Barry Pepper's "friends" (or actually the bodyguard). If you think he is the film's main hero as he portray in many movie, change your mind. For my comment, I think this movie had a big fault. They focused on their drama scene too much, so this very slow-paced film made me boring. They tried to show everyone's feeling even its not important for the film. Especially when Vin Diesel in his role, Taylor, beat up the bad guy in the bar. The film's crew made Diesel horribly due to his talkative dialog. I believe Steven Seagal will not act like this even he is in cold-blooded style. Some good side of this movie maybe on three things. First, the simply but very interesting plot. How the guys do when they make the mob boss' money loss? I am also very surprised about some plot twist in the film's climax which made me thrill. Second, all of the main actors act very good. Even Vin Diesel still show his professional skill in acting. Barry Pepper made us believe that he can be "adult" even his father (maybe) never trust him. John Malkovich also shows his delightfully role too.And the last one, the movie give us in the common opinion that you can find in many crime movies. "No one can rise in the bad side." The last scene of the film pleased me.However, if you want to see the crime film. You still have many choices.
whosyourdrummer1 I really did like this movie it was a good way to end the day, to sit back and watch a movie. Vin Deisel is a very good action actor and so were all the costars in this movie. This movie had a couple changes in plot that I really liked a lot. This movie also made me laugh a good bit which is hard to get me to do at movies so kudos to the script writer. This movie had a lot of action which is something I love to see, as long as the special effects are good. This movie did not use any special effects so I didn't have to worry about that ruining it for me. I would not say this is the best movie i have ever seen but I did like this movie a lot and it is one of those movies I could watch over again 7/10
Kristine I rented some movies this weekend and "Knockaround Guys" was a risk rent I call it, I never heard of it and wasn't that interested. But I mean, what a promising cast: Seth Green, John Malkovich, Dennis Hopper, and Vin Deisel. Being here on IMDb, I noticed that there were a few put downs on the film, mostly feeling that there was a miscast. Especially with John, in some ways I agree, he just couldn't do a good Italian accent or wasn't too threatening. But what can I say? I love the guy too much! Being a more update mob movie taking place into today's society, I thought it was very interesting. Matty is the son of a very famous mobster, causing him to loose job opportunity after job opportunity because of his name. When he finally decides to join the family business with his friends, they have a little stumble transferring money that is owed to an under boss that can cause Matty's father's life. Together he and his friends must get that money back in the best way possible: The Godfather's way of doing things! This was a great action flick and no, it's not really a decent mob movie. But I did enjoy it, maybe I was just in a good mood, but I feel that this is a pretty under rated film that should be given another chance. We'll just have to forgive John, you know he does his best! 9/10
