Still one of the greatest movies of all time, this is totally enjoyable from it's opening scene to it's last. Be honest, who doesn't feel bad for Kong? What was he doing that was so terrible? The real villain in this movie is greedy Carl Denham. He couldn't be happy just shooting film of Kong, no he had to wrench the poor beast from the only home he'd ever known. The SFX, by the late, great Willis O'Brien still stand up today and this film is even decades later, still worth watching. Sheer brilliance, it should never be remade again.

The majority of the film didn't have dialogue, which is what old films stand on. So King Kong didn't work for me.I had a good feeling coming into this. It started out fine, on the boat travelling to the island, crew talking among themselves, setting foot on the island and back to the boat was all fine. I struggle with noise, so from the point in which Ann is taken and Kong is introduced in the film, it has frequent loud music and a lot of screaming by Ann, so I found it hard to enjoy. I thought Kong's face looked rather silly, though his body movements were fine, I found his chewing and stomping on people rather funny.

Not only is it a technical marvel, full of innovation and unfathomable effort, it's also one of the most exciting adventure tales ever. The rampage on the native's village; the breakout in Manhattan; the fight with the dinosaur. The excitement, the humor, the characters, the sheer size; it's sowing the seeds of what we've come to love in the best of modern blockbusters.

I saw this classic while i was a kid and my first feelings still continue today while i'm an adult: the clash of civilization / nature is really gripping and the violence of every side is frightening
It's amazing to see that in the 30s, the movies language was already finished because except for the special effects, this movie equals (and sometimes beats) all current productions: the story is clear, direct, intriguing, the cast is talented and the characters totally recognizable and there is a real, deep craft to build the sets (i really like when they are climbing down the cliff and you can see on the horizon the boat and the big door)! The score really supports what happens on screen, either action, romance or communication... As for the effects, this movie is the proof that CGI are not the miracle: computers weren't invented then however King Kong (and its bestiary) looks alive and with feelings! You are afraid for Ann and then you are afraid for King Kong... In a way, there is as much emotion and care here than with the best Cameron or LOTR trilogy! So it's really a masterpiece and each year the movie gets older, it adds value as this happens in an America more and more distant... For sure today dumb people would criticize the racial prejudices as whatever you can write is considered as an attack!
