sfrank-32380 So I'm having a hard time understanding what the hell all these people giving this movie terrible reviews (one star? really?). I mean, I guess it depends on what your expectations were going into it. I'm getting the impression the majority or reviewers were expecting a Citizen Kane. I was expecting some ass kicking. And you know what I got? Some ass kicking! Yeah, maybe the acting isn't too great. Again, when I watch a fighting movie that doesn't take itself super serious, I'm not expecting Oscar worthy performances. The acting isn't terrible though (except for the big Ogre villain who's dialogue consists of grunts and yells). The fight scenes are awesome. Incredible shots for a straight to streaming release. One scene in particular, which spans the length of five minutes, appeared to be a single shot scene showing Kurt Sloan beat the everloving crap out of about 25 Thai prisoners as he ascends up a prison corridor. What a freakin scene!Anyway, if you're a fan of ass kicking, watch the movie.
jordanthomas_2009-346-914758 It's the sequel to the unwatchable Kickboxer Vengeance (which was a 2016 remake of the Jean Claude Van Damme film). It's on the same level as that film as it is dull and lacks any logic what so ever. It stars Alan Moussi as Kurt who is held prisoner and forced to fight. Scenery chewing Christopher Lambert has his wife hostage and blackmails him to fight a steroid addict (who is the size of an elephant). Little is known about any of these characters and everything is so random it just makes no sense. What's worse is the writers make no effort to explore these characters and you'll be confused as to what the hell is going on. It's full of plot inconsistencies and unresolved storylines. To be honest there isn't really a plot, it's just a bunch of fight sequences mashed together. Anyway, it's literally one fight scenario after another, and although some of them are ok, it just gets repetitive and boring. Jean Claude Van Damme returns as his trainer (who is now blind) and he just sleepwalks throughout his scenes. When it eventually gets to his training scenes, it's just massively underwhelming. Usually in these types of films, the training montages are the best bits. When it comes to the final fight the buildup was pointless as it isn't exciting as it should have been. The characters are so one dimensional that by the end, you won't even care what happens to them. Its actually so bad it's laughable. Oh it also has Mike Tyson in it.
stevenrotherforth Kick boxer Retaliation.Well I must admit I've seen some ridiculous films in my time but this one takes the biscuit! This movie is so bonkers that I spent the duration of the film with my mouth agape unable to turn it off for fear I may miss more ludicrousness. My mouth actually went dry because I had it open for so long!Because of this you could actually say that this flick is entertaining. I don't know why I found myself unable to turn it off as the acting is terrible, the story (what story?) makes absolutely no sense and the director has no direction. This time Kurt Sloane played by Alain Moussi is kidnapped and carted off back to Thailand and made to fight some dude who is taller than a giraffe on stilts. When he refuses he's thrown into prison for killing Tong Po in the first film. Kurt then proceeds to get tortured before he agrees to baddy Christopher Lambert's terms. Christopher Lambert? Now there's a blast from the past. He still struggles in the acting department sounds like he's losing his voice. Whilst in prison Kurt meets up with old pal Durand played again by Jean Claude Van Damme who also happens to be in there too. Now there's a coincidence? Oh did I mention that JCVD is blind now? Don't ask me why but he is. Even though he still walks about like he can see just fine and his blindness has made even better at the chop socky stuff! Just when you think that the daftness has been piled as high as daftness will go Mike Tyson turns up. Seriously I wanted to turn this off and go to bed but Mike Tyson has a full speaking role. I'm not missing this for all the noodles in Thailand! He can't act but you can tell him that.In all seriousness this film is a bunch of well choreographed but totally far fetched fight scenes strung together with no plot for cohesion. As an added bonus we get rip off scenes from many other movies of the genre but with a bit of nudity thrown in for good measure. The scene with the mirrors from Enter the Dragon is recreated with two half naked girls sporting luminous lipstick! I did mention that this movie is ludicrous! So I made it to the inevitable big fight at the end and boy it doesn't disappoint. Sadly there's no Oscars awaiting this movie but it could win the award for most ridiculous movie fight of all time. The big baddy is played by the really big fella from Game of Thrones. He's so huge he makes Ivan Drago look vertically challenged. Weighing in at 400Ibs and on a cocktail of steroids the character is so strong he punches Kurts wife into a coma. Don't worry fight fans she wakes up a few scenes later with absolutely no side effects. In fact everyone in this movie who gets the stuffing kicked out of them miraculously suffers no bruises or grazes. In the end fight Kurt gets punched, kicked, thrown around and stabbed. He even dies! Yes you read that right. He actually dies and comes back to life before opening a large can of whoop ass on the man mountain. In all my years growing up with straight to video martial arts movies I have never witnessed anything as crazy as this. But for all its silliness it does have a certain charm. It's far from great. Not even average but it does draw you in and holds you there. Problem is I feel a whole lot dumber for watching it. I think I've killed off the last few remaining brain cells I had.
Leofwine_draca I'm afraid that KICKBOXER: RETALIATION didn't enthrall me as it did some other reviewers on this site. I found it something to a chore to watch and a step down from the previous flick, KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE. It tells the same old story once again, but at a near two hour running time it goes on a bit too long and there's some cheesy overacting to contend with. Not that the story matters in an action film, but the action is somewhat sub-standard too. The film suffers from awfully cheesy direction and the CGI train in the first sequence tells you everything you need to know. Some of the actor's moves are okay but the fight choreography isn't really all that special. What this film does have going for it are a number of B-movie stars making an appearance. Van Damme returns as mentor and is blind this time around, while Mike Tyson shows up as a prison fighter and is great value. Christopher Lambert surprisingly appears as the villain but has very little to do other than sit around and make wisecracks. The hulking Hafpor Julius Bjornsson, of GAME OF THRONES fame, is the big bad guy and solid enough, but after a long wait the extended fight climax is only so-so.
