With a plot not that dissimilar to that of 'Enchanted' years later, this was a French film that did well that got adapted for a US audience. It also has a screenplay part credited to the legend that is John Hughes of 'Breakfast Club' fame. Not that you'd know it sadly. This film isn't actually that funny, or as clever as it likes to think it is, wasting a good performance from Jean Reno in the progress. Think of obvious jokes that you could imagine happening in this film about knights somehow winding up in the US, and you'll most likely see them. There is a clear sense that John Hughes was phoning this one in, sadly.

This is the American remake of one our best classic comedy. The originality for us french people is that this remake uses the same original and french duo of medieval heroes ! Thus as this movie deals with time travel, we get a really innovative experiment : if « BTF2 » was a travel into « BTF1 », this remake is like going into a parallel earth : it's the same story more or less, the same scenes and funny moments but in a total, new environment because we jump from a small rural french village to big city Chicago ! When it becomes even more crazy for me, it's because I know a bit Chicago after visiting it so i was as well in a known territory ! I found « Kelly Bundy » to do a good job and in all cases with more talent that the dreadful Robin used in the french sequel ! In a way, the variations really clarify and wakes up the story ; the production has more money to do great sets and effects ! It's true that i don't laugh as much, maybe because i was always in the gang ! But i also watched it in french so i lost all the pleasure to hear my fellows speak in medieval English ! In addition, it's a pity that the heir of Jacquouille has been erased because as Clavier was a electrical maniac funny actor, his character misses. To conclude, the remake is a bit less good than the french original but much better than its sequel !

This American remake of the French movie LES VISITEURS is more silly than funny. I did watch the original film a long time ago and I don't remember it very well, but I think it is better than this one. This film has a few funny jokes, especially the ones at the restaurant, and the "expected jokes" at the toilets, but all the rest seems pretty silly! I know it's a family movie and it's all about fantasy but even so I can't find another word to describe some pathetic situations present in the movie. It might be entertaining but it's silly! Anyway, I can't say I did enjoy the film very much but I had a few laughs. I score it 4/10, for some entertainment.

This is certainly a different vehicle for Jean Reno, one of my favorites. He plays a 12th Century Knight that is thrust into the 21st Century due to a goof by his Wizard (Malcolm McDowell). He runs into a descendant, 30 generations removed, in the form of Christina Applegate, who just happens to be the spitting image of his wife. You have your basic time-travel story 12th Century in 21st Century and the usual gaffs and laughs that are to be expected. Tara Reid played an interesting part as the gardener next door that convinces Reno's servant to stay.Brigette Wilson (I Know What You Did Last Summer, House on Haunted Hill) also struts her stuff for our viewing pleasure. Not a great film, but I do enjoy Jean Reno, and I like time-travel movies, so it was worth 88 minutes of my life.
