Linus A heart thrilling movie with an interesting story, with a ghostly and intense atmosphere, the story in this movie makes it stick out even more. The ghastly sounds of the monster is creepy and the make up is admirably accomplished, the movie quality is not as we are used to in todays movie, however it gives an impression that its real life which adds an extra scary feeling. The composer got the soundtracks just right, perfectly appropriate for this movie, the director really wanted to creep out the audience with the cat sounds from an innocent little pale boy, and the make up on the victims who tend to move around, despite being such bad quality they figured out the camera angles to the very best points to show what need to be shown.
G K Ju-on is a haunted house one-trick pony. The story is about a social worker in Tokyo who stumbles across a haunted house and is exposed to a deadly curse. The film is a creepy but unfocused chiller, the seed of a successful franchise; there are moments of considerable dread, but the jumbled narrative allows a lot of the tension to dissipate. Ju-on was extremely popular and well received for a low-budget V-Cinema film. It has never been given an official DVD release outside of Japan, Germany and Scandinavia. It is only available outside of these certain areas by internet purchase or download.
Claudio Carvalho I believe the movie that I saw twice is actually "Ju-on: The Grudge". The cover of the DVDs in IMDb are the same."Ju-On" is a very scary horror movie, based on a Japanese legend. In the beginning of the film, there is an explanation in this regard. When a person is killed in a violent way, his or her death generates a cursed evil spirit that will stay in the place where the crime took place. If another person meets this spirit, he or she will be chased and haunted to the death generating another curse. In Western cultures, the fiend is generally trapped in a haunted house, and the person is safe and sound if he or she escapes from the place."Ju-on" impresses because there is no bloody scene, only a tense psychological exploration of the inner fear of human beings for the unknown. The story is very simple and low paced, there are very few special effects, a great use of sound, no gore, but the creepy atmosphere is really frightening. Asiatic cinema proves again that in this moment their cinema is the number one in the horror genre. Unfortunately, the pretentious American industry of cinema insists in remaking and spoiling these Asian masterpieces. Today, 23 March 2007, I have just watched "Ju-on" for the second time with the intention of seeing the Japanese sequel and I startled many times with this excellent horror movie. I recalled the whole story and now I am familiarized with this Japanese belief of the Ju-on, therefore the non-chronological screenplay got better and better than in the first time that I saw. My vote is eight.Title (Brazil): "Ju-On, O Grito" ("Ju-On, The Scream")
ploor For a low budget movie, this should rank as one of the best Horror movie, and certainly one of my favourites. All the comments have been posted, so I'll now disclose the Story - Spoilers.Scene 1: (Past) A male teacher realised that a student has been missing for some time, so he went to the house. He found the boy (Toshio) badly scratched and injured and alone in the house.Scene 2: A female social worker was coaching a student in a room. The girl rushed off to school leaving her alone and strange things start to happen. While the curse took place, the brother was in the next door but didn't realise anything.Scene 3: The brother's girlfriend was waiting in the school long after everybody is gone, because the bicycle and mopbile phone were still around. The school attendant chided her for staying late and left her alone in the office while she went looking for the boy. Strange things start to happen and Toshio (His spirit) appeared.Scene 4: The girlfriend's body was lying in the morgue and 2 police inspectors were discussing how/who left a behind chin in the murder scene. Back to the house, the mother was came home and nobody was around. While answering a call, the girl returned, badly injured from scratches and guess what body part was missing? Scene 5: (Back to the past) The teacher was reading the journal by the mother and she mentioned the husband's jealousy and his name. He realised that a murder could have taken place. But a noise from the attic attracted him and he found the body. As he hurried to leave, a phone call by the murderer (house owner) that he has killed the teacher's wife. He was stunned and froze at the spot. This is the climax of the movie!!! The murderer did not escape too as somehow his dead wife came back to life in the plastic.Scene 6: Final scene and back to the present. A real estate agent tried to sell this house and asked his sister, who has some supernatural instinct for advice. As she came to the house, she felt a strong presence of evil and advised that only those who do not find the wine bitter will not be harmed in the house.I'll be back for part II.
