classicsoncall Count me among Jim Gaffigan's many loyal fans. He had me hooked with that weird 'Hot Pockets' riff way back in his first comedy special, I couldn't stop laughing. This show was filmed in Boston, and the comedian returns to one of his favorite topics - food and eating. It seems like he's 'obsessed' with it. Other topics under the Gaffigan microscope include Whole Foods, body wash, Victoria's Secret, big families, cancer and religion. You wouldn't think cancer would be much of a target for a comedy show but this guy makes it work and has you laughing. The only missing element this time out seems to be Gaffigan's contempt for exercising, but he made enough comments about being overweight that he probably didn't need to. I mean really, you could just tell he hates it.
MartinHafer Bill Gaffigan's humor is generally very clean and centers a LOT on his love of food...and this is pretty much a summary of what you'll get here with "Obsessed". The only major difference is that he seems to talk even MORE about food than usual. Not only the things he adores, such as donuts and Kobe beef but the thing he doesn't like nor understands...shellfish and kale. Additional topics he covers are Gluttony, why Whole Foods is a racket, drinking in bars, a guy shopping at Victoria's Secret, his five kids, cancer and why Mt. Rushmore sucks. All of it is told in his usual manner and if you like Gaffigan, you'll like this. Funny, observant and family- friendly-ish...this one is worth seeing even if you don't like Gaffigan's current TV show (which is amazingly uneven). If you wanna see it, it's available now streaming through Netflix.
