Sci-FiHorrorFan The movie is about a group of people that are stranded on an island and wonder why the boat is not coming back to pick them up like it usually does when they want to leave the island.people start disappearing and we find out they are being picked off one by one by some mysterious creatures.I don't get the hate for this film, and I don't think it deserves one star like some reviewers gave it. I thought the film had an interesting story and a Dark and moody atmosphere to it. At times the movie felt like John carpenter's The Thing because of the isolated setting and the suspense. Obviously this movie is Not as Great as the Thing but it does have a similar story and atmosphere that I enjoyed.I liked the concept of the movie and there were some cool ideas in the movie too.I appreciate the fact that the people who made This film wanted to do something slightly different, so it wasn't just your typical killed off one by one story but there were also good twists and interesting plot points added to the story which made it more engaging.I also thought The movie was well directed and I liked the music and sound effects that were used in the film, it made The movie feel dark and atmospheric.I also liked The effects of the creatures and The design. The Acting was just Okay it was nothing special i can admit that, and the characters were not the best either which is one of the movies faults.most of them were so so characters that lacked character development but there was character development from a couple of characters like the Father and the Local women that helps them fight the creatures with a Shot gun, I actually liked her and I liked the father too.The wife and daughter were okay I guess but for the most part there aren't many interesting or likeable characters in the movie, and having more than two likeable characters would have helped the movie because there were quite a few i didn't care about.despite the lack of interesting characters This movie was still quite suspenseful and interesting and it had me on the edge of my seat most of the time because I kept wondering what was going on.The movie had a couple of good twists in it too which I won't spoil. At times the movie felt like Pitch Black too because of the isolated setting and the fact that our characters are surrounded by Evil Creatures, and I thought that was a Good thing because I Love Pitch black. So if people are fans of that movie they might like this movie. The Ending of Island Zero was alright but it could have been slightly better in my opinion, but overall the Movie is Okay and not nearly as bad as most people say it is.The movie was Entertaining and I would recommend at least one watch.Overall I Liked The Movie Okay.
TheLittleSongbird Was drawn into seeing 'Island Zero' with a cool poster/cover, a very intriguing and creative premise and as someone with a general appreciation for the genre. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive. 'Island Zero' is a film it doesn't do enough with its potential (although there are far bigger wastes of potential in film) and could have been much better, can't say that it is a great film because it isn't. It is not a terrible film though, as far as recent low-budget film viewings go it's better than most but with good things. It certainly could have been far worse, considering the large number of films seen recently being mediocre at best and irredeemably terrible at worst.Lets start with the positives. The scenery is atmospheric and spooky and 'Island Zero' is surprisingly well shot considering the budget. The music is ominous.Found that the acting was not bad, while not award-worthy it was not amateurish and it seemed like the actors were trying to engage. The direction has assured parts. Also that there were a few nice moments that intrigued and there was some suspense, frightening horror and unsettlement, the first portion is promising. The suspense and unsettlement doesn't come consistently however, with the second half not having enough of either. What stops them from being frequent and stronger is an at times deadly dull pace with too many overlong scenes of little going on, not all necessary either and there for padding mainly, and also a structure that is not as cohesive or clear as it could have been. The less suspense and sense of horror there is, the more senseless and ridiculous it gets, the ending is ludicrous. Part of me felt it could have been more claustrophobic with the close-knit setting and community, some of the film feels too safe and restrained for such a dire situation.'Island Zero's' idea was great but the content didn't always feel enough for a feature film. It feels more like a short film over-stretched at times. The over-stretched sense is present too in a rushed-first-draft-stage and talky script and a pace that goes overkill on the slow burning. With a pace and structure that fails to compel it is very difficult to ignore. Characters have very little to them, while the budget limitations show in the editing, which is careless at times, and especially the effects, which look afterthought-like.Overall, not an easy film to rate or review. Not awful, not much to get excited about. 5/10 Bethany Cox
natcalgary I liked the premise of the movie and went in not expecting much more than a crap movie, I wasn't surprised. Bad acting all around. Bad cinematography. Plot holes, and horrible music. Ridiculous ending, Don't waste your time
bruceformer Island zero gets a lot right off the bat, actual location work and local actors adding to belief this is a real working place. Not like a lot of the sci fi channel flicks where you know its all a sound stage. Its a pretty good idea for a film too as a concept, though I think a lot of the better monster films have a few more ground rules for the creatures to keep it interesting. Which leads me to say this is a full blown monster film in the end & ultimately might disappoint as realistically to do that well you need a bit more of a budget. The first half and set up were great but by the end I was a bit tired of it all but the doctor character did a great job holding the film up as it turned into a bit uninspired Predator fish territory. Worth a go and I would say as a first effort which I think it is the entire crew have done a decent job. 6
