poe-48833 A common failing of many of the experimental films and videos I've seen over the years (as well as features featuring the likes of El Santo and Paul Naschy, not to mention scores of Chinese Martial Arts movies) has been the LIGHTING (or, more accurately, the lack thereof). The rationale in INVASION OF THE SAUCER MEN is that it's LIGHT that fries our friends from Space, hence its notable absence from too many scenes- which is a shame, really, because the Aliens are way-cool critters who should've been given the Spotlight, as it were. Their ship is also one of the coolest ever built for a sci-fi feature, and it, too, deserved better "exposure." Lightweight but okay for the period.
MartinHafer This is one of those sci-fi movies of the 50s that obviously did not take itself too seriously. Sure, the typical invasion from outer space was the theme of the film, but the bug-eyed aliens are so gosh-darn cute and the costumes so cool you can't help but smile instead of becoming afraid. And, the script also takes a less than serious look at the invasion. Sure, it is a dopey martian invasion movie but it makes no attempt to be otherwise and that is why I liked the movie so much--for what it was, it was sure fun. So, if you do watch the film, view it more as comedy and don't be too hard on this old film! If you do, you'll find it's a delightful little time passer.
david-puckett When I first saw this film in the sixties when I was young, I loved it. I was shopping for videos in the early 90's and found this one on VHS. For the sake of nostalgia, I bought it. This is more comedy than science fiction. The aliens are silly looking and the usual teenagers vs the monsters plot leaves much to be desired. The aliens in the movie Mars Attacks were obviously based on the ones in this film. It is easy to understand why this is no longer available on tape. I might have been the only person that bought it.
quintsjaws If you like the "Drive-In" films of the 1950s, you certainly wont be disappointed with this venture. It has everything - fun, creepy little creatures, chills and laughs. It has a narrative form to it which I find I liked, but you couldn't tell if the narrator was talking about an incident, a comic book or an inebriated nightmare that he'd had! I give this film ten stars!
