daggersineyes One of the best thrillers I've ever seen and the fact that it's a lesser budget "made for TV" movie doesn't diminish it's brilliance. It outshines most big budget Hollywood guff out there and provides the viewer with a tense, nail-biting experience mostly powered by two riveting performances from Molly Parker & John C. McGinley. This is what the French film, Haute Tension (High Tension/Switchblade romance) wanted to be but failed dismally. Intensity is the original movie based on Koontz novel - sadly Haute Tension, no matter how vehemently it's makers deny it - was a failed attempt to remake Intensity but not credit Koontz. They threw in a bunch of random "shocking" scenes/gore & a lame twist at the end hoping this would disguise the fact that it's the exact same story & they plagiarized it. What the directors of the French version didn't understand is why, even with it's low budget & basic production, this version of Intensity works so well and theirs doesn't. The acting, the script, the development of the plot and the fact that it isn't just slash & gore for the sake of it, THAT'S why it works. It's why this movie is a MUST SEE if you are able to find a copy of it anywhere while it's sneaky, absurdly violent, badly acted, slasher rip off - Haute Tension - is a "must avoid at all costs".And I have to stress how absolutely incredible John McGinley was as the psycho dude. Somehow he managed to come across as chillingly insane AND absurdly normal at the same time. One of THE best villains ever.I can't recommend this two-part mini-series enough. Please try and get a hold of the full uncut version if you can. It's definitely going to be a repeat viewer for me.
Monty King I thought John C. McGinley shone as the creepy serial murder... the movie had such an air of uniqueness to it, not like some that you can see the plot coming a mile away... lots of talented people and even animals, and through it all a masterful portrayal of Mcginley's character. As the title says, the intensity builds, and just when you think its solved, it gets better. If you've never seen it, you should find it and I'd even add it to my collection when I find it again... we saved it on the DVR.Don't know what else to say, but they want ten lines... I recommend highly.
Semen_Monster Intensity(1997) Staring John C. McGinley as the killer and Molly Parker as the terrorized girl. Haute tension(2003) and Intensity are both based on a Dean Koontz novel. It's basically the same story. Intensity is just so much better executed in every way. Better performances all-around and much more suspenseful but with less gore. Better shot and without the stupid plot twist at the end that Haute tension had. John C. McGinley gives a truly frightening performance as the serial killer. Great cameo by Piper Laurie. It's very, very good. One of the most suspenseful movies I've ever seen. And it doesn't let you out of it's grip even once for more than over it's 3 hour run. And it also being quite unknown for such a quality show makes it even more interesting and rewarding to watch. Almost better than all the great Stephen King mini series put together, and I'm a big, big fan of all the Stephen King miniseries. I think it's the realism of this movie that makes it so great and it's well drawn characters. Haute tension's got noting on the edge of the seat tension of Intensity. I probably would have liked Haute tension more if I had not seen this one first. Now Haute tension seems so very inferior compared to Intensity.I'm really confused by how such a great movie like Intensity has managed to stay so under the radar of the horror community. As of now there's no DVD release for this one. Which is a big shame when it comes to such a masterclass example of a suspenseful horror-thriller. This one really deserves the DVD treatment to give it some much deserved glory. I want to see a fully loaded 2 disk set with Special Features like a director commentary, deleted scenes, behind the camera documentaries and all that jazz.Until a DVD comes along, go out and find a VHS copy. You will find it most rewarding.
ccener2001 I am utterly confused by this movie! I just saw it on "free" OnDemand on Comcast and it ended with the villain pointing a gun in the heroine's face and the words "To Be Continued..." However, I found no listing for any continuation on the OnDemand listings.I'm guessing that this was a multi-part made-for-TV movie...I'm new to OnDemand, but find it incredible that they'd offer PART of a multi-part movie, and not the rest!Talk about a cliffhanger! Does anyone know what's up here?!? I'd be satisfied just knowing that there IS more! Can I assume that, now that it's on cable, I could get it on DVD?
