I love movies that go from bad to worse, which this is. And there was great chemistry between Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, two very funny people.

In all fairness the subject of identity fraud is very hard to make funny for a films plot, its a very sad and worrying problem that we all hope and try to avoid falling victim to,yet careful people still do. The film starts off okay there's a good build up of the man Sandys character and you straight away connect with him and sympathise with what his going through. But where the film goes wrong for me is when he meets up with the woman who has been defrauding him,the film then becomes so unrealistic and cringy. This woman has been ruining his life and has cost him even more money trying to find her,yet he tries to reason with her saying that he wont press further charges on her if she just admits that she has stolen his identity Hmmm ????? The film also relies heavily on this woman Diana for comedy effect which just doesn't work as her character is far too vulgar and 100% despicable to be funny,in fact i was disappointed that the assassins didn't catch and dispose of her.She was that bad Also the scene where she was having sex in the motel with the tycoon she picked up was just nauseating ,and done to the effect that it is good comedy to see and hear to obese people having sex.Really? This film just got more and more cringy by the minute ,i could go on but why bother ,just don't waste your time and avoid this film at all costs

I don't know why this movie got such a raw deal and bashing from the reviewers. The plot has humor and heart and I thought it was very good, it made me laugh a bunch and I recommend that anyone looking for fun entertainment should see it. To be certain, Identity Thief will win no major awards. What it will do is entertain you for about 90 minutes with great laughs. The movie is good for both sexes and most ages. If you enjoyed Bridesmaids or The Hangover then this is right up your alley. I love the lead actors and the rest of other cast is pretty good, too. Melissa McCarthy gives a hilarious and spot on performance of a sociopath con-woman. She has quickly moved to my number one favorite comedy actor. Melissa and Jason Bateman have great chemistry. The premise of the movie is a guy has his identity stolen and must go after the girl who stole it. Of course, the main story is really predictable, we know just by reading the plot that the guy will not really give her to the police, but there's lots of unpredictable moments which makes you entertained anyway. Sit back and enjoy.

The trailer doesn't look so bad, which is what enticed me to watch this in the first place. Carefully made and well crafted, the trailer hints at comedy and action with the rising comedic star McCarthy holding the fort. However the film was an utter disappointment. The acting was not so bad, they fit into the shoes of their character's well and had good delivery. The action scenes were pretty good too not many exciting ones, but it was pulled off well enough. The thing that made this film pretty horrible for me, was the terrible writing and directing. The conversations were just so mundane and though the aim was to come off natural, it ended up being awkward and unrealistic. It might have also been the delivery by the actors and actresses, but since I've seen Bateman and McCarthy in other films, I don't think they are to blame much. McCarthy has shown her comedic worth in The Heat and Spy (my personal favourites), and it is such a waste that Identity Thief could not join their ranks. However I did notice that the soundtrack was pretty good, and indeed they got recognized for that, having won the BMI film music award. That was pretty much the only good consistent thing in the film.Overall, this film had some nicely done comedic scenes, but not enough to save it from the terrible writing and directing which made the film pretty boring and a pain to finish watching.Read more movie reviews at: championangels.wordpress.com
