amccallister-18502 The first movie left me unsatisfied with the revenge portion. As a woman, I didn't feel like the characters really got what was coming to them. I didn't see the original, but I don't understand how the remake was controversial. THIS movie, on the other hand, did what the first movie failed to do! It is worthy of controversy. The movie was intense, shocking, and the revenge portion was satisfying. There were even a few moments where I cringed (something that didn't happen in the first movie). I appreciated the religious undertones and think they played well with the plot. The ending left me feeling satisfied. Overall, I thought the acting was pretty solid. I would recommend it to people who weren't shocked by the first one. However, if you thought the first one was intense then I don't think you'll be able to hand this movie. The first half was almost too much for me; but I am glad that I stuck through it and got to experience the second part.

lemon_magic All right, so I watched it, but only to see how it compared to the original.I didn't really want to see the harrowing first half, but knew I had to get through it to see the "vengeance is mine" driven 2nd part. To keep things short: yes, indeed, the character is brutalized, the actress gives it her all (think Ned Beatty in "Deliverance") and the camera spares us nothing. Now, onto the "good part", Katie's revenge. It's kind of a let down, to tell the truth. Not that the scenes aren't expertly filmed, acted and written. But in spite of the gruesome ferocity of the revenge killings, none of the have quite the squeal factor of the bathtub scene from the original (which really should have been the FINAL revenge in the original, instead of the second). And the character's vengeance themes are perhaps too literal to be even the least bit clever (for instance, after bad guy #3 tells Katie early on, "we all have our vices", he wakes up with his scrotum in a vice. Not funny, guys...not the least bit subtle.) On the other hand, the underground passage Katie makes on her initial journey to freedom takes on almost mythical qualities. And she sometimes looks like a demon-ness from Hell itself as she does various horrible things to her tormentors.I don't think there was ever any question that the cinematography on this film was going to be impressive. But the writing just misses the mark.

johnloach Quite simply why make this movie? No redeeming features at all.The film depicts sickeningly graphic scenes of rape and despicable violence to a completely innocent young woman. This is followed by her 'revenge'.How is this entertainment? Given that this is a sequel and thus a rehash of the same loathsome storyline makes the reasoning behind making it even more difficult to understand.I suspect those who enjoy this sort of movie have some serious issues which allow them to find gratification from such trash! Shame on the cast for taking part!!!

Kat Webb Being attacked, raped and then knocked unconscious and then waking up in a foreign country several days later, how truly terrifying! I can't say I like the Katy character she seemed like a bit of a stuck up girl possibly a New York stereotype and the bad guys were a bit of an Eastern European pervert stereotype.And I can't see a beautiful young woman walking into a makeshift studio full of guys she didn't know all alone. I don't see her friends approving of it either but maybe we are supposed to get the impression she is a bit naive and so are all her friends, even the neighbor who tries to rescue her and gets stabbed to death.It is definitely the torture porn category of horror with rape scenes and electro-torture.
