grantss A mediocre attempt to imitate Quentin Tarantino. Larry Bishop, the writer/director/lead actor, tries to copy the QT formula of tight intriguing scripts, snappy and funny dialogue and lead characters with "swagger".Plot is OK, though has some unfathomable tangents and sub-plots. The dialogue misses the mark: rather than being "snappy and funny" it is cheesy and lame.Bishop went so far as to cast two actors who would be instant reminders of QT films: Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs & Kill Bill) and David Carradine (Kill Bill). Dennis Hopper is thrown in to give the film some biker-cred (he did star in the ultimate biker movie, Easy Rider, remember). Hopper also appeared in True Romance, a movie QT wrote, so another QT reference. The swagger is there and Michael Madsen gets it down pat. Larry Bishop himself, however, overdoes it and comes across as unconvincing. Not the worst QT homage I've seen, but could have been better. Best thing about this is that, if you don't like it, at only 83 minutes, you won't have wasted too much of your life on it.
PhilipVier I wasn't hoping for much before deciding to watch Hell Ride. I saw the ratings and I was pretty sure that it was going to be bad. The reason I wanted to give it a try was because it had a great cast and it was produced by Quentin Tarantino. Sadly, these two things did nothing to make the film better, and it turned out to be a lot worse than I had ever expected. The film is written and directed by Larry Bishop, who stars as the main character. It's hard to point out on which front he's failed more. The directing makes the film look like a juvenile parody of everything Tarantino has ever done. Nearly every scene comes across as clichéd and very pretentious. Unfortunately, Bishop's storytelling skills aren't much better. Most of the time the plot is hard to follow, and sometimes even non-existent. The characters aren't much better. They are extremely shallow and speak weird lines that are supposed to be quirky, but are not. This makes the dialogue some of the worst in motion picture history. But probably the most amazing thing about this film is the acting. With people like Michael Madsen, Dennis Hopper, Vinnie Jones, and David Carradine you would expect some decent performances. But sadly, nearly every actor in this is terrible. Madsen looks like he isn't even trying, but just wants to act insane. Dennis Hopper is criminally underused, and gets no room to shine. Vinnie Jones just overacts in every scene and does a terrible accent. Only David Carradine comes close to giving a good performance, but he doesn't have much screen time and has to utter ridiculous lines. On the plus side none of these actors are as bad as Larry Bishop. Throughout the whole film he seems desperate to show us that he is a really cool tough guy. But he only succeeds in proving that he has no acting ability, no charisma, and no talent overall. His performance is like watching a poor man's Sylvester Stallone who is trying to do a Tom Savini impersonation. After watching this film I was left with an empty feeling. I didn't feel any emotion, but I knew that this was a terrible movie. You could summarise Hell Ride just by saying it's a complete waste of time. There are hardly any redeeming features. The directing is terrible, it's badly acted, and the story is boring and nearly non-existent. It's best just to stay away from this rubbish.
Bene Cumb The screenplay is rather mediocre - confusing and with too many repetition and clichés. Male muscles and tattoos, and female boobs and waists can be complementary, but not prevailing, and flashbacks / covered faces should not disorientate the viewers to the end. It seems that Larry Bishop took too heavy burden on his shoulders, being 4-in-1: director, the main star, screenwriter and co-producer.Apparently thanks to the banner "Quentin Tarantino Presents" the movie includes several magnificent actors in small(er) roles: Dennis Hopper, Michael Madsen, Vinnie Jones, David Carradine. Eric Balfour is also okay, but female actors are not special - the sames applies for Larry Bishop. Thus, the movie is OK for killing time, but Bishop is far away from Tarantino or Rodriguez.
Vomitron_G 'Hell Ride' absolutely doesn't do any effort in trying to hide that it's a wannabe Tarantino piece of nonsense (both the DVD cover and opening credits proudly scream "Quentin Tarantino presents..."). So, at least the film's pretty honest about this. In more than one way, this movie delivers what it promises (violence, female nudity, revenge, drug use, big bikes and then some). But it's not a great film or anything. The plot just hums around in circles and I didn't even mind it. Michael Madsen has a leading role. Dennis Hopper is not wasted on this one. David Carradine only has a cameo. And Vinnie Jones has no idea what he's doing in this film, except for looking mean. And there's an enormous amount of beautiful women in it. Considered that this is a biker movie, that's not realistic at all. Oh well.
