veljko1 I always liked movies movie about mafia, war, si-fi. But this movie is something else, first i thought that it is boring romantic movie, which are very populary in these days. But believe me this movie is not boring always is something happening. It almost make my cry. But i am a grown man!!! This is the most unhappy story of one couple which meet each other at collage, and ended a lot years latter, when they are not young, full of life like on start. It ends really tragically, and they can't start all over. :( What a sad story, today they live in dream spending all time together, living in nice part of Paris, having fun. But tomorrow they are in war, sacrificing for each other and thinking about past days, and about love which she never told him what does she feel.. This movie must be in top 250!!! Everything is perfect! If don't now should you watch it, i say you must watch it, but you will feel very sad for about 5 days!
dgg32 Directly after watching Theron's highly acclaimed movie "the Monster", I immediately turned to her next, namely the subject here "Head in the clouds". Although I understand little about what this title means. But Theron's performance in that film is simply convincing and brilliant. Purely from her appearance I already give the film 7 stars. In the monster, Theron has totally deformed herself. 30 pounds weight gain. Amazing, but meanwhile her makeup there also totally destroyed her impression in my mind--ugly and rough, disgusting. Because she had so successfully embodied Lee, the title role, she won a dozen prizes for it, at the price of her image of course. After all, I prefer that sweet Theron. In the "the Italian job" she had once showed the sweetness. Here in Head in the clouds the second time. Gilda is a very complex person. She lived at first quite cynically, never invested her emotion at any thing. But after meeting Guy, she changed. Even that hasn't help her to survive the war. Her tragic end of life is heartbreaking, without letting people know what good she had done during the war. Even though she was a playgirl, she is the most emotional character in the whole movie.
dunbare While this is certainly not my favorite movie. I loved that it was set in France and England (also has Spain too)in the 1930ish through 40's. The clothes are worth seeing this movie alone. Charlize Theron is without a doubt one of the top five most beautiful working actresses. It is impossible not to look at her. She plays the rich heiress Gilda Besse who has captured the heart of Guy( Stuart Townsend). She adds three to her company with the Spanish nurse in training Mia (Penelope Cruz). Gilda meets Mia while she is aspiring to be a photographer and Mia is her lovely model.Gilda is a complex woman who is torn from these two people who she loves most in the world due to the war. She is a wealthy woman who keeps up her wealthy lifestyle by taking comfort in a German officers company. Is she really a Nazi? Charlize was perfect for this role she looked incredible and walked like a stylish wealthy beauty. It must be said for however vain or cold Gilda seems she really does love Guy and Mia. Guy, who is somewhat telling the story is a little lost to me. He clearly loves Gilda and is an idealistic man. The actor who portrayed him is Stuart Townsend and I have not seen any of his other works. All I know is that he is apparently Charlize's real life boyfriend. He played his part well.Mia is played by Penelope Cruz. It is a shame Cruz cannot quite act as well in English as she can in Spanish. She is a terrific actress in her Spanish films, but just flat out stinks in any Hollywood production she has been in. Her accent is distracting, but in this film she is Spanish and therefore it is authentic. She is certainly pretty and is a lovely darker counterpart to the blonde Charlize. This is a film that is not quite terrific, but again it is visually pretty and the whole menage a trois between the three main characters is touching.
damienmuldoon My sense of disappointment with this film is probably due to the fact that I actually bought the DVD without ever having heard of the movie before. That isn't something I would generally do, but, when I read the back of the DVD and saw that the movie swept across western Europe taking in the Spanish Civil war as well as the Second World War, I was intrigued. Also, I did only buy it second hand. There really should be more happening in a film that stretches across such a momentous epoch in Europe's history. Charleze Teron steals the show and her character is the only one in the movie who really develops. Stuart Townsend is hopeless as the male lead trying to tame Teron's character's wild spirit. Penelope Cruz puts in a solid performance as a lame dancer and does not deserve the ignominious death her character suffers. This movie really falls between two stools. It tries to be a war epic and a love story, but ends up being neither. Charleze Teron's performance is the only thing that saves it from total disaster. Worth renting but definitely not one to add to the collection.
