Synopsis

Mangchi is a young boy with few problems and an easy disposition. Living on a building in the middle of the sea, he flies around on his little flying bike looking for adventures and longs for the day when he's finally an adult. So, when a princess named Poplar is being chased by two fighter planes, he rescues her. Little does he know that he will be pulled away from the city he has lived all his life, and dragged by Poplar into an adventure smack dab in between two countries at war and the evil plans of Moonk, usurper to Poplar's throne, who seeks world domination.

dbborroughs This is a Korean animated film that came to my attention a while back when it played the New York Children's Film Festival. Currently on Voom's family channel I watched a good bit of this turkey before turning it off. The plot has something to do with an obnoxious kid on a flying bicycle (Hey they call him obnoxious in the movie) rescuing a princess and getting involved with a usurper to her throne and a war. Playing and looking like a dozen or two other animated films from the Far East this film has nothing to set it apart from any other film except that its main character is the sort of fellow you'd like to drown. The less said the better. This is one of the Children Film Fest's "What were they thinking?" films. Only to be approached on cable.
danrogy This was advertised as "Hammerboy" on Voom satellite service. I saw in in HD and it was absolutely beautiful from a film transfer perspective. This was my first Korean anime. It was heavily geared toward children. As a result, it had a bit of trouble holding my attention. Nonetheless, it was nicely drawn and animated. There were some jokes and plot points in there that wouldn't be made by anybody appealing to American parents. That, of course, is a compliment to the filmmakers who were trying to tell a story, not sell a doll to neo- conservatives in the Bible belt. On the whole, I do not recommend this film even though there were some nice things about it.
