The movie that put an abrupt stop to Prince's movie career. Oh, it's a bad movie, all right, but I don't quite get that it's one of the worst movies ever, or even that it's significantly worse than Purple Rain. Honestly, I think I prefer it, just a bit, to the 1984 film. It's far shorter and it's way goofier - doesn't take itself as seriously. Sure, Purple Rain - the album - is Prince's masterpiece, but the soundtrack to Graffiti Bridge, while more stuck in the late 80s/early 90s and less timeless, is pretty great, too. Plot-wise, the two films are pretty similar. Prince is the good guy, Morris Day is the bad guy. They both fight over a girl (here it's Ingrid Chavez, who is beautiful but lacks the charisma of Apollonia; she's most famous for co-writing the Madonna song "Justify My Love"). There are a lot of songs. The set design here is pretty fantastic, and gives the film a surreal feel. I'm surprised the film isn't more beloved by cult audiences. It's very weird. And laughable, but in a fun way. Morris Day threatened to be more interesting in Purple Rain, and he succeeds in being so here. Prince has far less presence.

"graffiti bridge" follows on from "purple rain" prince's movie debut. It is quite a cult film and will only appeal to a limited audience. Visually it is very pleasant to the eye with more delicate choreography than in "purple rain" and musically its a real treat with a sound embraced in the technology of that era, but still lavished with prince's unique musical style. this movie expands on prince's spiritual ethos and retains a quirky mix of childlike innocence and adult sexuality. This movie is quite visionary for musicians as it offers some insight into the need for spiritual direction in music, as in all art. i enjoyed the movie and if you enjoyed movies such as "purple rain" or "interstella 5555" then i think you would probably enjoy this one.

Coming off his commercially disappointing album "Lovesexy",Prince was into the whole spiritual thing. He conceived "GraffitiBridge" sometime in 1989, planning to make it a film with him andhis then girlfriend Kim Basinger. They broke up but "Graffiti Bridge"was still going to be made. He took time off to compose the"Batman" soundtrack and in late '89, he began filming "GraffitiBridge". Many that got first dibs on the film forewarned a lot ofpeople about it. "Graffiti Bridge" was released in the fall of 1990with horrible reviews. It also bombed at the box office. People thatdidn't even see the film gave it negative reviews. What people failto understand is that "Graffiti Bridge" is a musical. It is almost likea homage to the old 50's musicals that were filmed on studio lots. This was film on Prince's Paisley Park compound, giving it acheap look. Perhaps Prince took himself a little bit too seriouslywhen advertising it, and threw people off making them think it is aregular movie. "Graffiti Bridge" is like one long music video. Andhonestly, the acting is horrible. The highlight of the film has to bethe music. That is the whole point. It is a musical and nothing else.So don't watch "Graffiti Bridge" expecting a real movie with dramaand great acting. It's a good film but it has it's flaws.Graffiti Bridge- rated R **1/2 out of ****

I loved this movie. I love the messages Prince gets across with his movies and music. Whether it be about love, peace, god, or even sex. I hope that he will produce, direct, and act in another one soon!
