After a female high school track star meets an abrupt untimely death while running in a race, a mysterious psycho in a fencing mask starts bumping off the girl's fellow teammates left and right. Possible suspects include hard-nosed Coach George Michaels (Christopher George in top scenery-gnashing gruff'n'growly form), smarmy principal Mr. Guglione (a supremely sleazy and spirited turn by Michael Pataki), and the deceased gal's tough Navy officer sister Anne (nicely played by Patch Mackenzie).Director/co-writer Herb Freed employs occasional use of strenuous slow motion (you just gotta love the balletic gymnastics routine set to classical music), a blaring rock soundtrack, several wacky creative murder set pieces (one guy gets impaled by a javelin affixed to a football!), a frenzied rapid-fire editing style (a doubled homicide that occurs while the gnarly group Felony cuts loose with a pounding protracted number kicks things over the deliriously kitschy goalpost with loads of crazy cross-cutting), and one of those groan-inducing "Carrie"-inspired nightmare endings to give this teen slice'n'dice opus its own distinctly goofy charm. Better still, super cutie Linnea Quigley as giggly pothead Dolores bares her sweet itty bitty pre-silicone natural breasts to dippy music teacher Mr. Roberts (an outrageously camp portrayal by Richard Balin), famous letter spinner Vanna White finds a bloodied body in a locker, and ubiquitous character actor Patrick Wright has an amusing bit as a lecherous truck driver. Arthur Kempel's slick cinematography provides a pleasing polished look. Daniel Tarussi's rattling score hits the shuddery oooga-booga spot. An absolute schlocky hoot.

After being pushed hard by her demanding track coach (George), Laura Ramstead (Ruth Ann Llorens) collapses and dies on the high school track. Her boyfriend Kevin (Murphy) is in shock from it, and soon a black gloved killer starts picking off other track team members in typical Slasher movie fashion. Is it the grieving Kevin, the demanding Coach or the loopy Principal (Pataki)? Laura's older sister Anne (MacKenzie) has returned home to be right in the middle of it. There are a few inspired deaths like when a pole vaulting victim landing on some spikes in the matte below, and one girl stabbed through the neck while jogging. Most of the time Graduation Day is displaying terrible acting, practically no script and way too many scenes involving cast members singing along to a bad songs! Director Herb Freed, who also co-wrote this did what many low budget film makers did in the early 1980's and cash in on the success of "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th". With no suspense, atmosphere or timing bad examples like this movie is what quickly killed the Slasher film by the end of the decade.

I'm pretty surprised at the low rating this flick has gotten on IMDb, as this is one seriously enjoyable slasher. "Graduation Day", distributed by the notorious "Troma Team" sub-label is fairly standard in plot, but the delivery is awesome.A girl collapses while running track and dies, sending her sister home from the military to try and find out more as she suspects foul play. There are a TON of red herrings here, most of them being more outrageous than the next. The gore is plentiful, and the kills inventive and numerous. I mean seriously, who doesn't like seeing someone get impaled by a fencing foil? This film is loaded with cheese, whether it be the extended musical scenes, or the over the top acting of just about everyone. The flash cuts/edits are actually pretty unique and add a bit of flair, and as I briefly mentioned above, the gore is actually pretty good, with blood spilling out of many, many mouths through the slayings. There is seriously not much to complain about here, and anyone who is a slasher junkie will eat this one up like it's Oxycodone

Many independent films have their place in the world, but "Graduation Day" makes you want to think twice about moving forward with your life. Senior year, also known as the year you graduate from high school. In this case, some of these students won't be making it that far. So what's the case? Low grades? Credit hours not enough to graduate? Well it's none of those answers. The real answers is the track team is getting bumped off. One student at a time. Why? Because one of the track stars died of a heart attack while finishing up the race in first place. Then suddenly, the other track stars are dying off as well. So when the news of her sister's death was mentioned, Ensign Anne Ramstead (Patch Mackenzie) is in town to investigate the murders of the track meet. The track meet does blame the coach(Christopher George) for his training methods. After he gets fired from the school, he ends up being a murder victim as well. I know that the school will end up vindicating him afterwards. So if it wasn't the coach, who was it? Not from the outside of the school, but inside the track meet. Laura's own boyfriend. He was more off kilted than the coach. Killing his own team? Not a very good feature. The real good feature is future "Wheel of Fortune" letter turner Vanna White playing Doris. This movie was all right, but it was not the best slasher film though. I've seen better.
