Pay no attention to the negative reviews about the acting being terribe and other negativity by people who need their horror movies filled with gore. My wife and I just watched it last night, and found the acting by the lead characters very believable--young couple in love, travelling overseas for the first time and experiencing the unimaginable. The directing was very good.
On the negative side: A couple of the main supporting characters fell a little short in some of their scenes, but it's easy to overlook. And there is the common horror movie flaw of the victim not telling anyone what just spooked them. But overall, it was a satisfying movie, eerie, good score, beautiful scenery and scarey ghost, and didn't rely on over-the-top use of f-bombs, like so many movies seem dependant on.

Predictable, overbearing, and generic, Ghost House is a film that is lacking in all the essential ingredients that make up a great horror. It's nothing more than a cheap knock-off of far better films that have come before it.One of the weakest elements of the film is that it seems to have little to no ideas of its own. The plot is eerily similar to Drag Me to Hell, with only certain details being changed. It not only lacks originality but scares too and many of those are ripped entirely from other horror films, with one scare in particular involving an eye and a throat which is taken directly from Insidious: Chapter 3.Despite the clear unoriginality, the film at least attempts to conjure up some of its own scares, to differing levels of success. One recurring element is the image of the central character, a disfigured, demonic old woman who's severely burned. Her first appearance is actually quite effective, but later appearances become less effective as the film has already showed you everything the creature has to offer.Much like the plot, the characters are also incredibly generic and paper-thin. The weak dialogue and lack of any character development make the characters dull and uninteresting and you struggle to develop any real emotion for them.If there's one thing the film does get right it is the beautiful landscape shots of Thailand, which does look magnificent here. Cinematographer Pierluigi Malavasi does a great job of making Thailand look stunning. He also does an admirable job of lighting and framing some of the films key set-pieces, while these scares are unoriginal, at least they look professional.Decent cinematography aside, though, there's nothing to see here. Ghost House is a wearisome and empty horror that is completely devoid of any decent scares. Its sheer lack of originality will leave you yearning to watch one of the many superior films that Ghost House borrows so heavily from.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. The locations were beautiful, the story was interesting and I was genuinely concerned for the characters.VAGUE SPOILERS: I like the kind of film that centers around characters that are realistic and not completely shallow, this for me is that kind of movie. Jim is by no means a great guy, but when it comes to making choices that can ruin other people's lives and help him and the person he cares about, he actually has a real human reaction to the problem and tries to find another solution that won't cause harm to anybody else instead of taking the easy way out.The ghostly witch was creepy and unsettling. It felt like Julie's hallucinations were something out of a nightmare or a feverish dream. I couldn't help but feel like I wanted to do something to help her shake her ghosts and wake back up into reality. There was a lot of production value, between the beautiful locations, the awesome sets and the elephant!A lot of horror films these days are cut from the same structure and guidelines. This movie took me back to horror films like The Serpent and the Rainbow.Certainly a must see for any horror fans!

Ghost House 2017... it's a cool story, but the acting is so bad... except for Scout Taylor-Compton. Two amazingly bad things that happen... like in the new Leatherface movie when the girl gets her leg caught in a bear trap and doesn't even scream out or act in pain in subsequent scenes, in this movie a guy checks his watch before answering a very specific time- related question, but the actor forgot his watch in that scene... or when the girl catches on FIRE for like 3 seconds before it vanishes and she falls over... and her boyfriend just looks at her as if waiting for the effect, then turns to his co- stars on queues how to react to an effect they cannot see, but he still does not react.... so bizarre, such bad acting... That being said... I do enjoy the story, and the lead characters do have chemistry, which does make up somewhat for the lead male's poor acting, which I imagine they took into account when making the film. The movie is rated sub 5/10 on IMDb and I think it does deserve a better score, like a 7.5, because it is a good story, the pacing works, the music is fantastic, and I love a horror film that takes place in Thailand, Thai and South Korea horror specifically I find to be very underrated.
