Reviews

superindrajit Manmohan Desai directed Amitabh many times and they were a hit pair. The pair of MKD and Amitabh was considered a success after super hits like Amar Akbar Anthony, Naseeb and hits like Coolie. Beforew these hits, came a few flops like Suhaag and Desh Premee but they managed to escape the public's beatings. However, after these hits came some hideous flops like Toofan and Ganga Jamunaa Sarawathi. This was the biggest super flop and the worst movie in the 80's. This movie contained the same old formula, rich family deceived by brother thrown to the poor homes and after many romantic songs and stupid comedy dialogues with bits of action the last scene of revenge leading to the climax of the picture. Direction by MKD is terrible, Acting is a bit overacted but well performed, music is great, action is fantastic which still doesn't make it a good movie. Amitabh was out of shape and after a big break from movies his comeback was terrible with hideous flops I mentioned above. Mithun is okay, Menakshi is annoying, Jaya is terrible, Amrish is good and the rest are okay.My rating for this movie would be 3
akaash-k Well what can i say about this movie? Despite the negativity on all the other reviews, i am going to be different and say i throughly enjoyed this movie, to much of an extent that it has earned a spot in my 'favourite list'. My first viewing of this movie was 6 years ago and i enjoyed it. This got me by surprise, as it was of Amitabh, the elderly man who danced around in 'Say Shaba Shaba'from KKKG! I had never seen a movie of him in his younger days, but boy am i glad i did and i think it earned my respect towards him and made me realise why everyone is crazy over him! I fell in love with the story, songs and characters, but none more so of 'Jamuna', (played by Meenakshi Seshadri), as her every scene entertained me! She has the looks, comedic skills and the voice! This movie re-led me to watch other movies of the 80's and to seek out movies of Meenakshi and Jaya Prada, who are now my favourite actresses of the 80s, and also of A.B's. I also loved the pairings of Meenakshi/A.B and Jaya/A.B, and always try to find movies of these two pairs. I loved the story as it showed a brief introduction of 'Ganga' 'Jamuna' and 'Saraswati' and how they all connect with one another by the events of the movie. The story was entertaining as it had romance, comedy (the mouse & tub scene haha), action and heartfelt songs. This movie became an instant hit within me and i loved Jamuna and Saraswati! What i still can't believe is that this movie was a super flop! Never the less, i still love it, so much that i even watched it yesterday night, and still have not got bored of it.Remember readers, never judge a movie through the words of a critic, as you have to watch it for yourself and decide whether you like it or not. Luckily i found this gem of a movie through the persistence of my mum to watch it, and have never regretted since, as it re-introduced me to the 80s style of movies, the drop dead stunning beauties Meenakshi Seshadri and Jaya Prada, Amitabh and of course, this brilliant movie! Watch this movie and let yourself decide on your view of it!
GeoBQn Wow. I can't believe I actually found this. I watched this on an overnight bus ride to Luxor, Egypt. I couldn't understand it because the language was in Hindi and the subtitles were Arabic. Still, the acting was so broad that I was able to at least figure out the basics of the plot. They were playing it too loud for me to fall asleep so I thought I might as well watch. It was pretty entertaining in a campy way. The production values are horrible, the musical numbers come out of nowhere, and the costumes and locations were beautiful enough for me to keep paying attention. Watch this only if you appreciate Ed Wood style camp, and for those that do, you will have fun.
Timonster This movie has everything you could ever want from a typical Bollywood movie: Plastic crocodiles, a Michael Jackson imitation, a gay dance scene, a piece of, ehm... stuff, that is supposed to be a rat, a sex scene that isn't a sex scene, weird blue-screen backgrounds... Shall I continue? If you expect a quality movie you will be disappointed, if you want a good laugh with some friends you have found the right movie! As usual with Bollywood movies this has some pretty cool singing/dancing scenes and a nice, predictable plot. Even though it lasts for about 3 hours I was almost never bored. Plenty of action. If your local rental shop has this one, I would definitely recommend it.
