So, Harvey Kinkel from Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Topanga Lawrence from Boy Meets World meet and fall in love. Sabrina hears about it and casts a spell

sorry
that's just how I looked at the movie because of the VERY familiar characters I saw. Relax, I kid – I kid.Honestly? Rated 1.9 on Netflix and 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, I expect nothing short of bullsh*t from this movie. I severely underestimated it, and I think I know why. Netflix went all sorts of crazy with the labeling of this films genres. This is not, I repeat NOT, a horror movie in anyway-shape-or form. If you are expecting to see a horror, quickly pick up your remote and skip this film. Whatever moron sat through this and said "Oh, hey, this is a horror movie!" was on way too much LSD that day. I hope you had a bad trip douche-bag.If I were to categorize this movie I would keep the Sci-Fi & Fantasy, trash the rest and add "Indie Film," "Video Game Movie" and "Psychological Thriller"
then find the guy who labeled it a horror and kick him square in the nuts. Now, as for the movie, don't go into it expecting an A class movie, it's definitely a B movie, but it's done really nicely. A video game tester getting over the death of his girlfriend receives a free virtual reality game in the mail and assumes he's meant to test it. He does and gets locked inside. It's an interesting concept – true it's something I've seen done before – but it was done well in my opinion. The acting was good, not great, but good and the storyline was great. I happen to especially love the ending. My suggestion? This is one of those movie you need to say "fuck the critics" to, watch and judge for yourself. And for the love of the dice, don't expect it to be a horror.

The concept of this movie is somewhat interesting, and it is the overall story that gives this movie any value at all. Even though a large majority of the story is pretty lame and predictable, I was still able to get caught up in it and want to see how the plot played out, it is the only thing that kept me from turning this completely off. The graphics are just horrible and at times make it difficult to watch. The acting is pretty bad throughout, aside from Nate Richert who was decent as he made his depressing character very likable and genuine, he seemed to really take the role seriously. So, in all Gamebox 1.0 is pretty much what I had expected. I really can't recommend watching this movie, but hey, its not a COMPLETE waste of an hour and a half....almost though.

Can't believe the other critics didn't recognise Sabrinas boyfriend. This is another movie about video games. Did X-Box have a share in this or did everyone get a free one? The opening sequence is a guy seemingly having an epileptic fit in his sleep whilst playing this game in his dreams. Dies in game dies for real. So that is the premise. The movie is about a guy who works as a video game checker finding faults and bloopers in video games. Good job. He then gets sent a game through the post. Why maybe because the game seeks out the vulnerable of this world. But then why get too deep. Its only a game. Or is it? Nate (real name) decides to play the game a la Existenz and the lines get extremely blurred as he can not awaken from this game and when he does, by his friends waking him etc he is still having psychotic flashes. So the lines are truly sullied. The characters in his game are made up of his friends, his dead girlfriend and the crocked cop who shot her as the bad dude. He starts off playing one game and then enters the others through windows holes in the ground etc. The game he begins is as a spy and at first it is fun shooting people, who just happen to look like his friends, and driving fast cars and bikes, with no lights or speed limits to worry about. When he meets the girl character that resembles his girlfriend things get interesting, difficult and a little scary for him. In the real world he again confronts the crocked cop, who, not satisfied with killing his one true love, puts Nate in a coma where the game continues. The thing about this film is it appears in mostly sepia format and that can make it a little hard to get used to, but you warm to it and I ended up enjoying it. Slow to start but develops quite well and the writing is not too corny. The ending, Well I wont tell.

Gamebox 1.0 has nobody in that you've seen before except Danielle Fishel and no one I know has heard about it except me. I saw a sneak screening in Hollywood with people off the street who also didn't know it existed. All that said, it's the best movie I've seen this year. The lead actor is a guy whose girlfriend got killed by a crooked cop. He's a miserable wreck doing nothing with his life except mope and watch old videos of her. Then he ends up with a video game that somehow sucks you into another world. (I'm not clear on how or why he gets the game. That could have been made clearer.) He ends up meeting his dead ex in the other world and the cop who killed her is now an evil gangster trying to kill him. Everything is clever and well thought out and people were crying at the end. I don't know if it's going into the theaters or coming out in blockbuster but you're getting your money's worth either way.
