Python Hyena
Fun with Dick and Jane (2005): Dir: Dean Parisot / Cast: Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, Alec Baldwin, Richard Jenkins, Angie Harmon: Routine remake about communication and marital union. When Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni lose their jobs and are threatened with bankruptcy they resort to crime in order to live. Setup works due to casual development of the plot that isn't rushed but the conclusion leaves questions as to whether a lesson is learned or is crime a payoff. Director Dean Parisot counters cheap sets in favor of developing the setup, which pays off further due to Carrey and Leoni's flawed methods of executing crime. They are an effective pairing coming from different cinematic backgrounds. They are at their best in crime scenes that backfire leaving them empty handed. Parisot previously made the mystifying comedy tragedy Home Fries as well as the science fiction comedy spoof misfire Galaxy Quest. Richard Jenkins carries a few laughs as an ex-co-worker but Alec Baldwin is a complete waste as the cheating boss in what amounts to being a rather standard role. Angie Harmon even got talked into this. It is hardly an impressive comedy in terms of its production values. Despite the fact that this is a remake the theme stresses the difficulty in living yet Dick and Jane's true fun is in their ability to work through these difficulties as a union. Score: 5 ½ / 10

While watching a movie that has been remade,it is all too easy to make comparisons to the original if you have seen it.It happens to me a lot.In the case of this film though,I had not(and,to date, still have not)seen the original,so it was much easier to watch without the scrutiny.I think this movie is a hoot! Jim Carrey is in top form here, and not only that,Tea Leoni matched him step for step and worked just as hard to make the film enjoyable as Carrey did.I do plan to watch the original film in the future, but this time,I will be doing the opposite:Comparing the original to the remake. That's rare for me.This time the original will have some expectations to live up to.

Although i had some laughs and i did, this movie is not meant to be made at all as it lacks all the needed things to make it something you like to see again or want to ask someone to go see.The movie is based on Fun with Dick and Jane by Gerald Gaiser.About Dick who had a high-paying job; he and his wife Jane (Tea Leoni) live in an expensive house in the suburbs, with their son Billy and housekeeper, Blanca (Gloria Garayua).Their life crashes head-on into reality when the firm Dick works for turns out to have been losing money but have been lying to everyone to make matters worse they made Dick the fall guy for some of their dirty dealings. Now broke and with no money and losing everything Dick and Jane start getting involved in anything they can even using guns to make money. The problem with this movie is the script and then the screenplay, some events in the movie are too ridiculous to be even considered that there were added at all. If you now add that to the acting skills of Jim Carrey, Téa Leoni and Alec Baldwin you have great actors doing a good job acting some really stupid scenes. While filming the coffee shop robbery scene, Leoni seriously injured her shoulder while sliding on the counter. During the scene where Carrey jumps into the ceiling and hangs above the bank desk, when he was stepping down, he accidentally fell and smacked his face on the floor. This painful blooper made it into the film.Fun with Dick and Jane came out after Series of Unfortunate Events, now series was a wonderful movie while this just fell through the cracks.Dean Parisot directed this movie and he will also be directing RED 2.Now this movie actually was a financial success, and i did laugh enough times to enjoy it, but as i said i can't recommend it.

Well, it's interesting to see Jim Carrey doing works different from his usual ones; okay, maybe this isn't THAT different from them, but at least he doesn't sound like a goofy retard anymore. In this short flick, Carrey's character is a desperated man robbing and cheating everyone around because his company broke and he's totally out of money. For a comedy movie, I believe there are too few funny moments, but at least they don't try to hard and fail like many of Carrey's comedies do. The plot itself isn't too elaborated or developed; the story is told in an entertaining way so the spectator doesn't have time to get sick, tired or lost in the story. Agree with me or not, but I liked this film better than "The Truman Show"-- and I must say I'm ready to be offended and receive thousand of negatives reactions to this opinion of mine.
