As some previous reviews mentioned, the movie drags a little in the middle, and it really does seem this could have been fixed by introducing Kay's background a little - we basically know nothing about him up until the end. Still, it is a great movie, much more down to earth realistic than majority of stuff coming from Hollywood (I would not agree, by the way, that it's paseé - I actually suspect there is quite a lot of such stuff going on everywhere). One of the best things here is the credibility of the main protagonist, who evolves throughout the movie and who's truth and struggle we witness and can relate to easily. While I watched "Free Fall" initially because of Hanno Koffler, who's brief appearances made "Summer Storm" such an entertaining movie (again, I'm not the 1st one here who had this same reason, which shows how impressive Hanno is there), Max Riemelt's work in "Free Fall" is beyond praise, as is Katharina Schüttler's. So, if you are into actor's art - go see this movie, it is absolutely amazing.

I was quite surprised to find this film to be excellent in all phases from the script to the director to the actors (all) to the camera and to us. It held me all the way through. I don't think there could have been any other ending then what it was. I know many romantics would have love it differently but in the writing there was honesty and truth to behold between the two lovers. There was the frustration, the times, the facts of each of them and their situations. I can't think how there could have been anything else that would change what was inevitable. It took lots of courage to do this film. I felt the actors in the two leads were superb in how they played their roles. Very believable and honest with their emotions. I also liked the wife in how she went through the phases of realization of her situation and what it brought to her. She was lovely in this. Each actor brought simplicity and sensibility in their work. Bravo! This was life and played with honesty, respect and sincerity. Beautifully done.

An exciting movie portraying the dilemma of a father starting his own family and falling in love to his partner in crime man. The story tackles the stigma of a woman finding out that her husband is cheating on her not with another woman but with another man. And how she acts about the situation. The story also tells about the struggle of a straight man falling in love with another man while starting up his own family with a woman whom he also loves. Three roads are being introduced to him by life and he choose the road that he believes it is the best for him and the two people he loves, openly or not.The movie shows love of a man struggling what love he will choose. All praise to the people for their awesome product.

Policeman Marc Borgmann is confused about his sexuality. His teammate Kay Engel pursues him. Quickly, he awakes in Marc a desire for a man this healthy 'heterosexual' never suspected. The film's denouement is easy to guess: Marc loses his live-in girl friend Bettina, mother of his new-born son, and he forsakes his lover Kay. In the end, he ends up alone. The seduction scene is cast in a typical German setting: a forest that has the feeling of a medieval tale. It is anything but sexual. The more physical scenes are shot in Kay's flat, with what passes for passionate sex, but borders on the banal. Overall, it is a familiar narrative where boy meets boy and girl and in the end with neither one nor the other. The theme of running is a thread though out the film, as Marc is running to catch a shadow of his inner life that is within reach but never attainable.
