bigboyjohnnyred I saw this movie a while ago in Los Angeles. I thought it was hilarious. Everyone in the audience were laughing their heads off. The muscial numbers were really funny and the dialog was clever and funny too. It reminded me of the film the PRODUCERS.The story follows a talentless girl and her dominating stage mother. The girl is cast in a broadway play set to fail. The mother ends up taking her place and making the show a hit. It was funnyI wish I could find the video for this film but I don't think it's available. If you get a chance to see this, do it, it's really really funny.
Paul Day Camp maybe, but I do think this film lacked something. The humour may have suited some, but in Auckland the humour seemed somewhat irrelevant. Thick false accents, bad lip-sink and a thin story line make this one of those films that you should see if you are bored. The drag aspect was charming, but really, keep it in the clubs and not on the big screen.
dmaxl Franchesca is an aspiring young musical actress whose career is being orchestrated by her mother (played by the incomparable Varla Jean Merman) and her mother's pals. Riotous humor, inventive musical numbers, and the sheer talent of the cast - especially Varla Jean Merman - make this film entertaining from beginning to end. If you enjoy John Waters, Pedro Almodovar, or inspired lunacy in general, you'll love this one.
