mnsmb7 Honestly, I was watching this on a lazy sunday and that's the kind of movie it is. It isn't a great movie by any means. The acting, dialogue and plot are all played out and subpar. Even the fighting scenes don't have any real climactic buildup. There are much better fighting films out there. What I can't forgive is how does a washed up high school wrestler who lives on the streets and doesn't ever train seamlessly takeout a professional boxer? It's not realistic. There is one scene of Channing training total. I also can't forgive the biggest drama comes about when Channing finds out the girl he likes is the girl who his agent uses to place bets. To me that really isn't a big deal but the movie blows it out of proportion.
Aurora Moras I don't know what the deal is, but the dialogue in the movie is hard to listen! They sound terrible. I understand slang and street talk, but I don't think I've hard a proper sentence being said in the movie. It's tiring and off-putting. As for the story-line - a complete 'been there, done that', but let's not kid ourselves... No matter how many times people make this movie, if the production is right and you have a name on the movie poster, people are going to watch it. Same goes for many other stories that are being recycled over and over again. All in all, that's not something I'm holding against this flick. On the other hand, screenplay had to be better. It lacks flow. It has a lot of smudge and blur and in my opinion, this is not a movie for that kind of artistic expression or message. That alone dulls the feeling. If it was made a bit sharper, it would've been a solid thing. I feel like the whole focus was shifted on Howard and that's OK, but I don't think that the whole movie had to be made like this just to reflect the shadiness of his character. Giving it a 6 and even that is a good will gesture.
mathumphreys I saw a clip of Channing Tatum shadow boxing the pole on the train and thought that this looked promising. Unfortunately it turned out to be a very boring predictable movie with really poor dialogue and overplayed characters. Some good actors in this movie, but nothing about them or the movie itself made me want to buy in to it. It was just hard work. Essentially it was a series of average (to be honest pretty boring) fight scenes linked with a predictable, boring storyline that contained a forced and unbelievable love thread.Another example of the trailer being better than the movie.
Gordon-11 This film is about a young man who got discovered by an agent to become a fighter in underground fights."Fighting" tells how a young man, broke in New York City, making quick money by risking his life in the underground circuit. Channing Tatum is convincing as a tough street guy, and he has the body for it. I have not watched many Terence Howard films, but he speaks slowly, deliberately and with a magnetic voice. I don't know if that's the way he speaks, but it is not so fitting with the prevailing mood of the film. The plot itself is predictable, I correctly guessed the ending thirty minutes before it happened. The final fighting scene is good, and it make ll the previous fight scenes appear child play. "Fighting" is an adequately entertaining action film for people who likes combats.
