John Thompson I wish they could make movies even half as funny as Easy Money today. unfortunately they can not due to lack of creativity, the Hollywood agenda and political correctness. Fortunately there are great older movies like this, foreign films, 250 years of books and good friends.
gschu0422 This movie is a must see for the Rodney Dangerfield fan. I think its his finest work as the main character. I grew up around neighbors like this character. The over protective father, pissing away the mortgage at the track for a "tip" that turns out to be mush. Out drinking late with his buddy every night.Rodney and Joey have great chemistry in this ... much funnier than Back to School yet doesn't get the credit ... some of the funniest zingers in a single movie aside from Midnight Run..you just cant help but laugh from beginning to end. Rodney plays the blue collar married father of two daughters to perfection. Joey plays the single playboy buddy / neighbor perfectly as well. Geraldine Fitz is great as the rich ball busting mother in law. Jennifer Jason Leigh has the "guidette daddy's little girl" down pat.
Lee Eisenberg If you've seen any Rodney Dangerfield movie, then you should know what sorts of things to expect in "Easy Money". He plays a rowdy guy who has to end his vices so that he and his wife (Candice Azzara) will inherit a department store. Mostly, the movie is an excuse for Dangerfield to play his common role of the eternally obnoxious guy. But don't get me wrong, he ends up doing some funny stuff, with great support provided by Joe Pesci as his irresponsible friend, Geraldine Fitzgerald as the irritating mother-in-law and Taylor Negron as the mischievous son-in-law. One of the funniest scenes is the whole sequence in the department store; that must have been so much fun to film! All in all, it's not the funniest movie of all time, but does elicit a few laughs. Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Noonan, Tom Ewell (of "The Seven Year Itch") and Lili Haydn.
youaresquishy I hated this flick.Rodney Dangerfield makes me laugh often, but not in this film. Even in the few lines he had that were actually funny, for reasons relating to the obviously poor directing, those lines sort of fell flat. And that's the story of this film--poor directing. This film comes off as the work of an amateur. And it is no wonder--this was James Signorelli's first major film-directing project. And, except for the unfortunate Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, it was also his last.Joe Pesci seems very out of place--probably a casting error. He just seemed to be playing the wrong character altogether. Maybe this is just a part of the poor directing, but he seemed like he wasn't at all interested in putting in a good performance. The film has an overall tone that is way way way too serious for a comedy--a clear indication of an amateur comedy-director. I would classify it as a drama, actually, if I were forced to classify it. Yet the plot is very hard to believe in, and it would've been so even if this had been filmed more as a really over-the-top comedy--just completely ridiculous.Of course, my first viewing comes in 2006. Obviously, I may have given it a 2 instead of a 1 had I seen it in the 80's.You can safely skip this one, even if you are a big Rodney Dangerfield fan. If you need to see a movie with Dangerfield in it, I'd recommend Caddyshack and Back to School, or just any of them other than this one.
