barberic-695-574135 Slow, predictable, depressing and miserable. Add to that the "obvious" acting by Jennifer Jason Leigh, her ineptitude heightened by the brilliant acting of Kathy Bates. Will we be watching it again in the future, highly unlikely.
nowego This is one of those movies I have on my must watch again list and have seen it numerous times, it never gets old.Being a fan of Stephen King, Kathy Bates, Jennifer Jason Leigh, David Strathairn, Christopher Plummer and John C. Reilly, probably, but not necessarily helps, the story is just that good. It is a classic Stephen King book I read in a very short period of time without putting it down much.It is also a Stephen King novel that has been adapted to the screen very well, unlike others novels he has written. Probably because it features only real people who most could relate to in real life.Kathy Bates is outstanding and probably up there with the best I have seen with her in the starring role, Misery would come a close second even though she got an Oscar for it, rather than this one.Early on some would regard this as a very dreary movie, which it probably is, just ignore that and continue watching all the way through. Don't give up half way, it is another genuine Stephen King masterpiece and you will be rewarded for persevering.Solid 8/10
leplatypus This adaptation and the novel make totally worthless the TV movie « storm of century » and companion novel « Gerald's game » from the same Stephen King. So if you look for a weather related story, stuck to this one only : sure the novel was a narrative Tour-De-Force as it was an interrupted monologue. As the movie don't do it, at first i was disappointed. But the movie supplies by a visual Tour-De-Forcee with its flashbacks and the good use (for one time) of color grading ! The cast is really exceptional and proves that talent doesn't came with celebrity or money ! It's a pity that Jennifer never had better opportunities afterward because she was totally into it there! As for the story, King was never as good when addressing a rural community and parents / children relationship. Sure there is no supernatural here but as it's ages that he didn't have an original and interesting idea in that field, it doesn't matter. On contrary, his examination of old age is moving and terrific as well. With Danny's haunting score, this movie ranks definitely among King's best adaptations ever !
SnoopyStyle On an island in Maine, housekeeper Dolores Claiborne (Kathy Bates) is detained after her employer Vera Donovan falls to her death. The mailman stops Dolores before she smashes Vera's head in with a rolling pin. In NYC, Dolores' journalist daughter Selena St. George (Jennifer Jason Leigh) receives a mysterious fax with a news report about the incident. She returns to her hometown to help her mother. Dolores' abusive drunken husband Joe St. George (David Strathairn) is revealed in flashbacks.Kathy Bates is great once again in another adaptation of a Stephen King psychological thriller. There is nothing supernatural except for Bates' acting abilities. If there is a problem, it's a bit too long with so few thrilling moments. The reveals are terrific. Strathairn is a great villain. It would be better if the movie is tighter.
