I give this movie a thumbs up only because it held my attention for more than 20 minutes ( which is more than what I can say about any ' b'ollywood 'hit' film )
A finely etched study of the varying dynamics between different members of the same family, manipulations, secrets & personal motivations that drive diplomacy, keeping-up-appearances, politics & power-play between in-laws, family friends & business partners. Zoya Akhtar was doing very well until she botched the end of the movie weakly in a schmaltzy finish.

This film was awful! The story was complete nonsense. Like most Bollywood films, the film had no logic, but this one has absolutely nothing in it! Rich people making up problems where there exist none and problems so fake and unrealistic, they can only happen in Bollywood. The acting over the top, dialogues and jokes were pathetic and that dog, why?! You know awards are bought in the industry when Anil Kapoor wins a Filmfare for his performance in this film. That's 3 hours of my life I'm never getting back.

Dil Dhadakne Do is directed by Zoya Akhtar and she once again made a very charming, entertaining Bollywood flick after Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. This movie contains a HUGE cast: Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Ranvir Singh, Shefali Shah, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, and even Aamir Khan as a voice-over. Everyone did an excellent job, especially Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra playing a father and daughter. The story follows a family and a lot of guests on a cruise ship for their 30th wedding anniversary who face variety of conflicts and misunderstandings within their already dysfunctional family. There is a lot of heart in this movie and it makes it so much fun to watch.Besides being very emotional, this is also a very funny movie. I was laughing my butt off at how silly it got at times. Aamir Khan voices as the family's dog, Pluto, and there is a lot of humor generated with that. Ranveer Singh also has some pretty comedic scenes. The cinematography is also gorgeous with beautiful shots of Europe and the cruise ship. There is even a song that is done completely in one shot, which is amazing. The drama makes this movie memorable. The disagreements within families about marriage are so well illustrated by this clever script. I love how Zoya Akhtar blends the line between Hollywood and Bollywood so well. At times, this didn't even feel like an Indian movie, aside from the songs. The songs were OK. I mean I didn't really like their presence in this movie but they're good on their own. There are a lot of subplots in this movie and they all have to present for this story to be told correctly. But sometimes the pacing gets messed up and the tone keeps shifting from comedy to drama and back. Also this movie is really long at 2 hours and 53 minutes, but it feels like every scene has to be a part of it. These are just a few nitpicks I have with the film but other than that I had a great time with Dil Dhadakne Do. Compared to Zoya Akhtar's other films, I think Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is the better film, but again I still very much enjoyed this one.I'm going to give Dil Dhadakne Do a B+.

The movie is best directed ever with minute concentration of every scene. The movie might seem slow for some, but that is the way it required to be directed. I loved the movie. No boring scenes at all. One always wants to know what is going to happen next. Every actor is great. Loved the acting of Ranveer, Priyanka, Anil Kapoor, Anushka. Keep it up.
