jakhiavadhut-75132 Of all the masala flicks that Bollywood produces each and every year, this one stands out as the suspense thriller that is in fact a suspense thriller, and not some typical Bollywood film. The story is great, the cinematography is beautiful, the 1940's Kolkata feels authentic. Sad that the film was a commercial flop. All of the cast was relatively unknown to me but all of them are incredible actors,Swastika Mukherjee leaves a mark and grabs your attention whenever shes on the screen. Sushant Singh Rajput as a detective is OK i guess but he does justice to his character. There is not enough character development of Ajit and Satyawati. The last act of the film feels lame in comparison to the tension that was built up during the entire film,it would have been better if they could have handled it differently. I'd recommend it as a must watch.
westsideschl Backdrop is Kolkata, India in the early '40s, harboring fears of a Japanese attack. Our central character, with elements of Sherlock, Clouseau, Poirot, is a rookie (cerebral, but still mistake prone and not of the fighter mode) private investigator. He is approached by the son of a chemist-father seeking answers to his father's disappearance. So period realistically filmed I had to check to see if this was a '40s restoration. The writers and director took painstaking care in finding locations, creating sets, props and sounds and using impeccable green screen CGI to recreate that moment. Acting was superb and twists expected of this genre were many, thus pay attention. Two main musical styles were spot on - a swing/be-bop style and to give a contemporary hook there was a rap element added for those appropriate moments. If time allows, in special features catch the flash mob dance sequence honoring the anniversary of a bridge.
Dwij Vasavada If Anurag Kashyap is held at a gun point and if he is asked to name one contemporary to make a movie, chances are high he'd close his eyes & name this man called Dibakar Banerjee. With a 135 min high intensity plot running with full vigour & zeal, the lickety-split Byomkesh Bakshy will keep you surmising, inquisitive and your gray matter unbent. It is close to impossible to sit back & relish that popcorn, since each enigmatic frame contains you completely with its mystery and question marks. And even before you know it, you reach the zenith in the story only to realize how a common whirl of a person missing in Calcutta turns out to be a whirlpool with Calcutta at the center of it. Sushant Singh Rajput delivers a path-breaking personal best & there's no reason for him to turn back. Overall with the pace, the convolution of the mystery & a brilliant storytelling, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is a definite watch! ‪#‎detectivebyomkeshbakshy‬ ‪#‎bollywood
Shivam Murari Detective Byomkesh Bakshi attempts to create a suspense thriller and that with the old age sincerity. The movie was never going to do well, the promos had clearly stated that, but the movie's attempts to blur the line between art and bore have failed miserably. The performances are brilliant no doubt. But is Sushant Singh Rajput a winner? Not really! His fine acting ability was more conspicuous in Kai Po Che than this flick. The film tries so hard to create suspense that it gives everything up to someone who is a lover of fiction. It's high time that Indian directors realize that creating the vibe of a classy film is not sufficient, you need a tight script and well executed performances too.
