As a fan of horror films, I seek out anything in the genre from big budget horrors to low budget indie ones... I have a particular liking for teen slashers though (and no, I'm not particularly young or male!)which this film falls into the category of. I found this film to be quite entertaining for what it was, decent acting, good camera work etc. Nothing new or innovative in the way the killer dispatches his victims, but the identity of the killer, for me anyway, was not immediately obvious. One complaint I did have is that in places, everything was so dark I couldn't see what was going on. I also feel that Rutger Hauer's character was wasted but that's probably because I am a fan of his and would have liked to have seen him on screen longer. Otherwise a decent effort.

One New Year's Eve a group of parents party, while their six kids make prank calls to random people. This ends in a bloodbath, when one of the victims decide to perpetrate revenge by chopping up all the adults in the household with an axe and letting the children live. Ten years later the killer seems to have returned and is now aiming each of the survivors separately. The foregone conclusion of the murders take place in a graduation party, which slowly but surely becomes a teen slasher movie...After starting off with some undisputed promise with a rather shocking and visceral opening sequence the movie quickly drifts into teenage slasherland with a spice of "Scream". The plot is nonsensical and basically derivative with a very poorly devised baddie. What's worse the perpetrator of the original crime never shows up and remains a gimmick used solely to start off the movie. None of the characters really click and by the time body-count starts amassing you can't be bothered and actually seem a bit thankful that irritating useless characters are being disposed of in prompt fashion. Some of the murders are well done (and gory enough to keep the blood pumping), even though several of them are basically winks to classical slashers in 'can you name from where we borrowed that scene?' An absolutely pointless and derivative flick with a shelf-life of milk. Not even some decent albeit absolutely pointless Rutger Hauer cameo can make a turd into a piece of cake. It makes it look better, but it still tastes of crap.

This was a fun and entertaining slasher with brutal and bloody slayings but it was extremely unoriginal with a lot of dumb characters running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The whole concept has been done to death now and it tried too hard to be like a film like Scream or Urban Legend and it ended up more like a weaker version of Valentine. This film looked like it was made in the 1990's and it should of been released in that era because it might of done better because that's when this type of film was hip but now it's just not that scary or that suspenseful I mean it just failed at it though there was a couple of jump scares here and there but they were cheap. In the end there wasn't anything clever about this slasher at all and they could of done a better job with their material but I guess they wanted to rip off slashers of the 90's, very uninspired and pointless in the end and they left it opened for a sequel but I say don't bother. Overall Dead Tone was dead as a doorknob, BRAINLESS! It was kind of fun though while it lasted but not much thrills can be found in this slasher. Skip it or watch it if you haven't seen any of the slashers of the 1990's. More of a 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Put a bunch of typical (read : annoying) teenagers partying in a huge mansion, feed them with alcohol and sex and let an axe murderer ruin the party. That's pretty much the idea.Although there are some huge plot holes and the characters are too unlikable too care for, this didn't ruin the entertainment value for me. The atmosphere and style of this film is very reminiscent of "All the boys love Mandy Lane" as well as the old fashioned '80s slasher films. If this is what you're looking for, you're probably gonna enjoy this film. However, don't expect it to be anything more than that. It sure as h*** ain't no Shakespeare (to stick with the ghetto language of some of this film's characters).
