sarahtrepadus I've watched over hundreds of horror movies while on my quest to find the perfect horror film. I wanted to give up so many times because they weren't scary at all, even the ones with the good ratings. So I didn't expect much from this movie, but boy was I surprised. The first horror movie in more than 6 months of searching which was actually scary. It wasn't like cheap jumpscare scary, but there were a lot of thrilling moments. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat and I think is a great film for horror fanatics. I absolutely loved it and can't wait to find more real scary movies!
Aaron-UK Being a fan Leigh Whannell I didn't doubt I would likely enjoy this movie. I cannot be anything more than true to myself and say I though it was brilliant. For me a horror movie isn't a realistic dramatic masterpiece, it must have some kind of imagination and creation to its story. I think dead silence did very well in that respect. The story, although it follows the typical horror movie path, does veer off into something a little more fresh. Going in deeper than normal into certain characters back story is a great addition. This movie has some really great old skool scares. So if you like the jumpy horror movies like I do then give it a try.
MostEvilHag I watch a lot of scary movies, like a lot. I remember hearing buzz about this movie a few years back but never got around to watching because I assumed it was your run of the mill over hyped scary movie. I was dead wrong. This movie scared the daylights out of me. It falls within the genre of jump scares and sound effects, but it weirdly does not come off as cheesy or cheap. Something about this movie is just really creepy and eery. Like another reviewer said, don't go into this movie expecting it to be bad and cheesy because it is easily picked apart. Just enjoy it because it is a great and scary portrayal of the story. Revolves around an old puppet that mysteriously shows up and raises hell. Has a killer twist ending, and will leave you scared even after you watch something funny afterwards... "Beware the stare of Mary Shaw....."
Predrag Dead Silence has a simple story-line and I really dug it. Jamie Ashen's (Ryan Kwanten) wife is murdered a few minutes into the film. The distraught Jamie heads home to find out more about the creepy ventriloquist dummy that showed up at his doorstep... minutes before his wife died. What follows is a tense journey into a small hick town with a bumbling detective (a scene stealing Donnie Wahlberg) hot on Ashen's trail. This ghost tale focuses on dead Ventriloquist Mary Shaw. Shaw had no children so she treated her dolls like her family. Oh, and apparently after she croaked she decided to haunt the lives/dreams of people from her hometown. According to a children's poem if you ever see her in your dreams, you shouldn't ever scream... or she'll kill you.The film had the touch of classic fifties and eighties horror films which I think it paid great homage to. If you've been missing good old-fashioned horror flicks without all that ultra violence, this movie's for you. Kwanten is very believable as the protagonist. Wahlberg, whose screen time is minimal, steals the scene every shot he gets. The supporting cast is filled with familiar faces and does a good job as well. The special effects were nicely done and the doll designs oozed creepiness to boot. The dolls in this movie are truly creepy, and if that's what you're after, plan yourself a marathon of certain episodes of The Twilight Zone, X-Files, the 70's classic Magic, and of course, Dead Silence as the cherry on top.Overall rating: 8 out of 10.
