I didn't know this was based on a video game. Or was the video game based on this movie? Doesn't matter to me. I won't buy the video game and I also could not watch this movie all the way to the end. Yes, it was that bad. What I did see was bad dialogue, decent makeup, lots of blood and acting like they did no retakes. I found myself skipping ahead several times to the action scenes. This was because what the main characters had to say wasn't important. Are they ever important in zombie movies? Skip this farce and do something, anything else. Like read a book. NO zombies! :)

DEAD RISING: WATCHTOWER is the film version of the popular DEAD RISING video games, which are basically action-focused rip-offs of DAWN AND THE DEAD and its ilk. How will this niche film fit into a genre already overcrowded with awful low budget zombie flicks? The answer is that it sits somewhere around in the middle in terms of quality. This is neither the best or the worst of its genre; it has highs and lows, good stuff and bad. I'll get the bad stuff out of the way first: there's a massively overlong running time which means that a lot of the material is long-winded and repetitive; action films like this should be short and snappy, not drag on interminably. The writing is only average and the characterisation is rather dull.On the plus side: the cinematography is a step up from your garden variety gut-muncher. There's one stand-out tracking shot which takes place around the halfway mark and involves mucho zombie killing set in and around a school bus. It's a brilliant scene and a shame the rest of the film can't match it. For the rest of the running time, we have bland leading man Jesse Metcalfe (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) running away from zombies and evil biker gangs, and Virginia Madsen (CANDYMAN) cameoing as a grieving mother. It doesn't add up to very much in the end, but it passes the time if a time waster is what you're looking for.

In East Mission, Oregon, the Hit Point reporter Chase Carter (Jesse Metcalfe) and the camerawoman Jordan (Keegan Connor Tracy) are covering stories from the people in quarantine of a zombie outbreak. The FEZA is using the vaccine Zombrex to inoculate the victims and Chase tries to interview Crystal LaRourke (Meghan Ory) that is on the location. Out of the blue, the patients turn into zombies and Jordan flees with the Hit Point car, leaving Chase behind. He follows Crystal chased by zombies and she stumbles upon Maggie (Virginia Madsen), a woman in shock that has just lost her daughter. They seek shelter in a loan store while Jordan arrives in the border but is sent to quarantine. While the military under the command of General Lyons (Dennis Haysbert) want to bomb the city since Zombrex is ineffective, Chase, Crystal and Maggie fight to reach the border. Chase discovers a secret about Crystal while Jordan discloses the real intention of General Lyons. "Dead Rising: Watchtower" is a funny and entertaining zombie adventure based on a video game. Unfortunately there is no conclusion of the story and it seems that a sequel will be made. My vote is six.Title (Brazil): Not Available on Blu-Ray or DVD

I consider myself a big fan of zombies and will pretty much take in all forms of entertainment they are in. A lot what they're involved in is really bad low budget films but that doesn't bother me none because there is an irresistible charm for me when it concerns bad movies. However, "Dead Rising: Watchtower" is a little different because it's a feature that takes place in a video game franchise I really enjoy. The film might not be the most memorable or the most technically brilliant film put together but I did find it mildly enjoyable. It suffers from all the same follies that most low budget zombie films suffer from—like weak makeup, awful looking CG blood and acting that just barely cuts the mustard. This feature also suffers from a run time that feels a bit too long for the story and it makes for a lot of dragging and it starts to take itself way too seriously towards the end. However, there are some fun moments that make the film better than most video game adaptations and a lot of low budget zombie features. The nods and winks to the game are amusing and Rob Riggle's small role as Frank West easily is the best thing about the film. It's definitely not the best zombie film I've seen in my life but it's entertaining enough that I wasn't bored.
