Benedito Dias Rodrigues Apart all scientific terms used by the crew member of institute of geologic survey is quite sure technically right, all special effects are great but when the pickup driven by Brosnan overcame a track of hot volcanic lava crossing the road, plus a little boy around 11 years old driving a van in dangerous road try to saves his grandmother.plus in the poisoned lake scene, plus saving the dog on the road and finally reaching the old mine where the car is almost crushed by heavy rock is certainly to misuse our capacity of faces such absurd facts.....this is outrage with the audience!!!Unbelievable at most!!!First watch: 1998 / How many: 3 / Source: TV-Cable TV-DVD / Rating: 5.5
Special-K88 Dr. Harry Dalton is a volcanologist with the U.S. Geographical Survey sent to investigate seismic activity in Dante's Peak, a small town in Washington that borders a dormant volcano. What begins as a routine assignment quickly turns frantic and deadly, as he becomes the sole 'voice of reason' while trying to convince his superiors and the blissful town inhabitants of an impending eruption. Despite an obvious setup, it's well-acted with beautiful scenery, first-rate special effects, and a solid buildup of suspense...it's only the dramatic aspect of the story-specifically character relationships-that seem familiar and unconvincing, along with an ending that feels much too convenient. **½
jpave2000 This is essentially the same plot as Jaws, but with a volcano standing in for the shark. Stupid town officials don't listen to the warnings of a scientist and boy will they regret it!
omegaxshook First off, yes I get not everything is 100% factual, but it's not far off from fact. The movie is almost like a re-telling of Mt St. Helens. Its a good disaster movie to watch and I enjoy watching it. Linda Hamilton who played a tough woman in the Terminator movies, does a great job at playing her sweet damsel in distress type of character, yet strong and bold. Peirce Bronson is a guy I would want with me in this situation, he plays the character perfectly. Its a great movie, and if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
