I remember watching this film years ago and I found it the perfect mix of mystery, horror and comedy in one film. This movie does have to be taken with a grain of salt as part of the key points in this movie is its a comedy, and was never suppose to be overly serious and that is what makes this film different from so many others today, which try to be serious and there executed so poorly it becomes a comedy.. The reasons this movie has been rated poorly are beyond me I can only infer that people were expecting to see something else and overlooked the merits of this film which is a shame.Club Dread is a true enjoyment to watch and if I'm honest its underrated defiantly a film to watch with friends. I give this film a 7/10.

Anyone who didn't like this movie wasn't really paying attention. This is a classic and deserves way better than in the 5's. Anyone who is reading this before they watch it needs to know that IMDb fans have screwed this one up. I gave it a 10 to boost it even though it probably won't but it really belongs in the high 7's. The writing, acting, direction, humor, and delivery are all brilliant and if you're a broken lizard fan it makes it even better. They all play great characters in this one and while it wasn't as popular as say "Super troopers" it was definitely as good if not better. The ending probably made a lot of people dislike it but IT'S A COMEDY PEOPLE! I personally love this movie more than any other broken lizard title and felt compelled to review it when I saw it had such a low rating. Seriously if you're avoiding it due to it's IMDb rating, you're missing out.

Broken Lizard's Club Dread doesn't try to pay homage to slasher films as much as it laughs at them by introducing a bunch of oddball characters that are jumping around off their own medicine. The lively actors, beautiful scenery, and suspenseful scenes actually make this one of the few comedy/horror films that I'll recommend.I normally hate comedy and horror mixed together, but that doesn't mean it can't be done well. Maybe I've just been unlucky when it comes to seeking out the right films. Broken Lizard's Club Dread compiles cliché, tired elements from old slasher films and truly makes them work with the cast's quick wit and the stylish directing which goes to Jay Chandrasekhar. The story takes place at Coconut Pete's Pleasure Island, and our host of the same name is played by Bill Paxton in a very Jimmy Buffet-esque manner. Many tourists arrive at the island to have too many drinks and way too many careless hookups. Among the staff is Lars (Hefferman), a chubby man who has the hands for giving a great massage among other things, Jenny (Daniels), the sweet and "innocent" Yoga instructor, Putman (Chandrasekhar), the champion tennis player. Dave (Soter), Pete's crazy son. Juan (Lemme), a sex-maniac who is obsessed with a tourist named Penelope, but nicknamed by him "Pee-na-lope" (Ladd). And Sam (Stolhanske), the fun police of the island. There learn that a killer is on the island, and is killing people in rhythm to a song written by Coconut Pete years ago called "Naughty Cal." The song has shocking parallels to a number of the murders, and only makes more out of such a small thriller.Among the counselors, I think Lars and Putman where my favorites. Lars is sensitive, yet sometimes short tempered, and Putman is by far the quirkiest one of the bunch. Which is pretty much the highest compliment I can give him and the Broken Lizard group. They are a delightful, quirky comedic group that projects a unique type of humor onto modern society. Some love it, others don't.To recommend this film to everyone would be a big mistake. It's a common sense recommendation - if you like comedy and horror, this is for you. If you don't, you should skip it. If you're new to the horror genre, this is not the place to start. Broken Lizard's Club Dread dares to be different, and it works out more often than not.Starring: Bill Paxton, Kevin Heffernan, Brittany Daniel, Steve Lemme, Jordan Ladd, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Greg Cipes, and M.C. Gainey. Directed by: Jay Chandrasekhar.

I've seen Broken Lizard's "Club Dread" back in 2004 and 2005 about 20 times. So, then, when I thought that this movie was pretty good, I decided to rent it on Netflix again. When I watched it again, I realized that it's not very watchable that much anymore. It sort of gets old. Even though I watched in 20 times before, it seems now that it lacks something. The kills are great and there is lots of blood, and great murder effects. I recommend watching this, I just don't know if you could watch it more than once or twice max. So, all in all, if you love gore and you really love horror films with cheap acting and fun characters, I recommend watching this.
