While I do realize Winston Churchill was not a perfect man and he made some serious mistakes in his life, this movie is unfair in it's portrayal of him as an obnoxious alcoholic and a selfish old buffoon who is living in the past. The movie does have some positive aspects, such as the superb work by the cinematographer David Higgs, and some stellar performances by Miranda Richardson, John Slattery, James Purefoy and Julian Wadham. However it is not historically accurate, since Churchill was not stubbornly opposed to the Normandy landing. And there were several other inaccuracies, for example King George's stammer was not nearly as bad as shown in the movie. There really isn't much of a story in this one, except for the historical background of the Normandy invasion.

I watched the first 40 minutes in growing disbelief until I thought 'sod it!'. What a load of nonsense! Film makers et al who remake history to the immense detriment of the truth and thereby the memory of such a great man should be held to account. I am completely disgusted... if you couldn't tell already. Sad to think this film will now be many peoples 'truth'. :(

Complete nonsense - totally inaccurate & unacceptable, unentertaining; boring; awful dribble. For a man with such a momentus impact on the conduct and execution of the war. Who did more; often by sheer force of will and personality; than any other individual to defeat the nazis. To depict him as an indecisive leader with no control; respect or authority over his troops - wracked with misgivings over the d day landings is pure fiction which is not just unentertaining but downright insulting.Avoid it.

I didn't know anything about Churchill. This taught me a lot and was beautifully shot with some great music. Standout scene was where the king met churchill to tell him he could not go on the ship. Loved it
