cricketbat The less you know about Catfish, the better. Just know that 1. It's a real documentary and 2. It's absolutely fascinating to watch the story unfold. Even if you know how it all ends, this movie is still worth a watch.
Asif Khan (asifahsankhan) When a film gets called "the best Alfred Hitchcock film that Alfred Hitchcock never made" in its trailer, it has a lot to live up to. And– watching the trailer– it's clear that Catfish definitely has the potential to be one darkly entertaining documentary.Just because a film doesn't feature buckets of blood doesn't mean it's not tense, or frightening, or that people aren't being gutted. Just because the trailers trade on the trappings of the thriller genre doesn't mean that Catfish is any less thrilling or tension- filled (almost unbearably so in some moments) to sit through. And lemme tell ya: it's not "FAKE1!!!!!1″, and it's not a Mock-monetary. Catfish is the real deal, and anyone that tells you otherwise clearly hasn't seen the film in its entirety yet. I'm warning you now: stay far away from those that would seek to spoil this film for you, and ignore the claims that it isn't real.Catfish — demonstrates that the internet and in this case Facebook allows users to not only share content, but to also steal content; to poach photos, videos, music and more and re-purpose it for their own use. The current explosion of content on the internet and social networks provides users with the ability to pluck content off the web and create an entire identity with stolen information.
Ben Warburton There's not much you can really say about this film without including spoilers. However, the basic plot follows "Nev", as he starts a new friendship/relationship with a family online (namely over facebook). Throughout the film we see this story develop, until we see that not everything is as it seems. As I watched the trailer and got a grasp on the basic story, I thought the film had masses of potential. As a regular user of social media, I found the 'documentary' in places a bit unbelievable. The last 40 minutes of the film suggests like the story is building, but for me, it never fully delivered.A truly great concept, but for me it didn't quite live up to expectations.
a_kozak Catfish is a great film about trust and online anonymity and how it can be taken to advantage. This film follows the relationship between Yaniv (Nev) and Abby, an 8-year old girl who loves to paint. These two individuals expand their knowledge of one another. This film is great with some good character moments especially with Angela near the end, I love how the filmmakers chose and observational take to make us seem like we are following Nev's life. Everything in the film feels real because this could easily happen to other people and it probably does. Nev takes it one step further by surprise visiting the family. Catfish is a heart-wrenching film done in a very good way. 8/10 Watch it.
