meddlecore Oh, for f*ck sake, who gave the franchise to porn people? Leave it to porn people to completely ignore the fact that Candyman was destroyed in the second film, and resurrect him from being doubly dead without explanation. And, of course, they redefine the rules...again. Not only can he still be summoned by saying his name 5 times in the mirror (this curse was supposed to be broken in the last film), now he just kills anyone who doesn't believe in him indiscriminately...even if they don't summon him.Though, mostly it's people around the main character Caroline (Donna D'Errico)- the daughter of Annie (and thus great granddaughter of Daniel Robataille), from Candyman 2.This is basically the almost softcore porn version of Candyman.Literally, almost every scene has the potential to bust into porn...there are a few close calls too...and at least one instance where it kinda does.Seems like they used the porn stars own kids as the child actors in this, as well. That being said, I can see why Tony Todd took the part...I would too...Ironically, it probably has the creepiest Candyman. Tony Todd must have been extra motivated, or something. And they definitely have the best full shot of Candyman with his jacket open in this. Not many special effects utilized in the kill department, though- other than people getting impaled by hooks. They just use the same gag over and over. Though, the one scene with the bees on the girl had notably better CGI; and that bee in the blood egg thing was cool too. They did set themselves up for some sweet-so-sweetness with that twist that leads to the massacre...but they don't even show anything! The f*ck is that?! The aftermath scenes in this just don't live up to those from the first film.Anyways...it turns out, Candyman gets triggered when Caroline allows his art to be exploited. And thus acts in the exact opposite way that he does in the previous film, by specifically trying to kill his remaining relatives- wanting to bring them over to the dead side with him. He holds her to the same Faustian bargain that he does Helen, from the first film. How many ways is there to kill a Candyman?! That's what I want to know...Cause this is getting ridiculous. (But to be fair...this seems like the more true of the two sequels)4.5 out of 10.
FlashCallahan The ghostly serial killer returns once again from beyond the grave this time to haunt a Los Angeles art gallery owner named Caroline McKeever, a distant relative of the Candyman. In order for him to claim her soul so she will be next to him, the Candyman goes about killing all those associated with Caroline in the usual gory ways with his hook and making it appear to the authorities that Caroline is the one responsible for the killings....Tony Todd said in an interview in 2003 that he didn't really care for this movie. And I wonder why? This film has to be one of the worse sequels ever to such a good first movie, and sadly, even from watching it from a 'straight to DVD third movie, so it could be cheesy fun' angle, the film has no redeeming qualities to it.First off, the lead actress D'errico (the one from baywatch) has the most annoying scream in the world, and soon you wish she had a hook in her throat.Secondly, Todd looks beyond bored, and in some scenes, it's as if he has had a drink, because words cannot explain his facial expressions. It's plot is ripped from the first movie, right down to the best friend, and the inclusion of a silly twist at the end, makes the film even more ludicrous. It's not even a film you can laugh at. It's one of those movies you will find yourself giving dirty looks, and hating yourself for watching it.
kirk-246 'Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers', 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 2', 'Childs Play 3', and 'Candyman 3' all have something in common. If you're thinking that they're all sequels, you are right, but there's something else. All of these movies are examples of underrated sequels.I liked all of these movies and I don't care what other people have to say about them.I thought that 'Candyman 3: Day of the Dead' was a pretty decent horror movie with another groundbreaking performance by Tony Todd.Nobody will ever play a better Candyman than him. That's a fact that we horror fans should know.I haven't seen the 2nd movie yet, but I do have to say that the first and the third were pretty good.Maybe the third wasn't as good as the first, but I still found it to be a good movie. After you're finished reading my review, I want you to go to a mirror and say Candyman 5 times. If he shows up and tries to kill you, then it serves you right for thinking that this movie was totally pointless. If the Candyman franchise wants to be really popular, then there needs to be a 4th installment.Let's hope that Tony Todd is willing to play Candyman again.
Kristine I was kinda looking forward to seeing how they ended the Candyman trilogy and the story actually looked entertaining. I remember when I was younger getting a peek at the movie on HBO, but I think I remember falling asleep, so it was at least something I could put to rest of what the rest of the movie was about. Candyman 3: Day of the Dead turned out to be an ordinary sequel with nothing to remember and it wasn't up to par with the original Candyman.Caroline, the great great grand daughter of Candyman, is still haunted by the dreams of what her family and Candyman had to go through. No one believes her of course that he is still real, Candyman is back though and he is murdering her friends one by one while she gets the blame. She tries to uncover the legend and figure out what he wants from her, but she might end up loosing the only true friend of her's.This film was sadly typical and even for a horror movie it was plain pathetic, I do like a little cheesiness every once in a while, but for a great story like Candyman, this was really sad. Well, I can see why they didn't make a fourth installment to the Candyman series, big surprise there. Well, at least I'm done... or am I? *Insert cynical laughter here* 2/10
