Synopsis

On a high mountain plain lives a lamb with wool of such remarkable sheen that he breaks into high-steppin' dance. But there comes a day when he loses his lustrous coat and, along with it, his pride. It takes a wise jackalope - a horn-adorned rabbit - to teach the moping lamb that wooly or not, it's what's inside that'll help him rebound from life's troubles.

Stompgal_87 I first saw this short before 'The Incredibles' with some fellow college students and it's every bit as enjoyable as the film it preceded, albeit the initial distress of the lamb being shorn as the rain starts to pour. Also this is one of a few Pixar shorts that has some spoken dialogue that, like the narration, rhymes perfectly. The lamb is cute and I love his dancing as well as the country music score throughout. I did, however, find the jackalope odd at first glance since I'd never seen a hare and deer hybrid before. Nevertheless he was reassuring towards the lamb to tell him to bound to overcome his shyness and I liked the drum beats made by the jackalope's bounding. Like the dancing, the bounding catches on to the animals surrounding the lamb and in spite of the cliché of the 360-shot, I enjoyed watching the lamb bounding as the seasons change. All in all this a mostly cheerful short that had a distressing bit, which in turn made me sympathise with the lamb but appreciate his dancing and bounding as well. 8/10.
Clownbird Beautiful visuals and top-notch animation as usual, but that's about it. Isn't Pixar above these lame "feel-good" type message films? I'm really surprised they would have a) created such a sappy film and then b) release it in front of The Incredibles, which was aimed at an older audience than this "Boundin'" pap. The message of the film? Ooh, be proud of whoever you are, whatever you look like. That's an excellent sentiment, and one that would be right at home in a cartoon from, I don't know, about 1970. In 2003, it's over thirty years late. Most of the Dr. Seuss-like rhymes seemed a little forced as well. Pixar needs to stick with what it knows, and that's making intelligent, witty films. Leave the cutesy message films aimed at five-year-olds for some lesser studio to create.
cataliciouslasvegas My Children are in love with this short and so am I. My kids 2 & 4 try to do both the high steppin dance and the bound. They love the characters and gasp with an "oh no" when the truck rumbles up. Then they get sad with the sheep once he is sheared, only to cheer when the Jackalope arrives.I know of no other cartoon that had done all of that in less than 5 minutes for my kids. Finding out that Bud Luckey also did the Aligator King for Sesame Street just makes this short even sweeter. The nerd in me must also comment that the animation is amazing and beautiful. Now I can only hope that more shorts and cartoons will take on both the quality of this animation as well as the quality of stimulation for kids....and I love it too....I guess the kid in me just loves the song, the colors, the story, the characters and the voice.
branteva We just got the "The Incredibles" DVD. I hadn't seen the theatrical release (can't stand going to movie theaters anymore). "Boundin'" is among the extras on disc 2. I saw it for the first time last night and already I've watched at least eight times. It's very sweet, and the music and cadence is appealing. Something about the innocence of it reminds me of early Disney material, but it's not so sentimental as that. Writer/director/narrator Bud Lucky is obviously a gentle soul with a keen sense of character. I hope he gets to helm more projects for Pixar. All in all, it's a delightful 4 minutes and some-odd seconds.
