Polaris_DiB A-ha-ha! Good times, good times! The Kuchar brothers are certainly an idiosyncratic coupla guys. Half straight-up b-movie cult film fodder, half experimental retro silent movie makers, and just a little of the need to basically prove that anyone can make a movie in their own apartment using film and drawings with intertitles and no sound, as long as they make it good--that's pretty much their aesthetic there. In this one, Mike directs, and George acts. George brings a mummy "Egyptian Princess" to life to live with and love him, but she must subsist off of blood in order to stay youthful and pretty. Standard fare there, until the cat burglars arrive and uncover the alien lifeform conspiracy. This is one of those must-be-seen to be believed sort of deals. What's nice about it is that it's a silent movie in stunning 60s color, obviously shot in their own small living space but in such a way that it doesn't look "familiar" (people who would have been there would be capable of not recognizing it), and they don't scrimp on special effects or animation to get their point across. Best part is the cinematography, on which everything relies, with a hyperkinetic dance scene and quite a bit of animation thrown in for good measure.--PolarisDiB
