Srosxi Has anyone that raved about this movie ever been to Ethiopia. It sucks. We should not waste any time watching trash that tries and fails to get empathy and sympathy out of people in The United States of America. Our lives are not to worry or even affect other countries. They know SIN as much as we do. Yet this movie is about two Adulterers who believe the grass is greener. It lost $29 million at the theater. Netflix, only showing poorly taken movies, of course rants about how great it is. No, it is not. If any of it was based even a tiny bit on reality, that divorce and adultery are wrong, and that it hurts all of those around you, then you'd think twice. But, Hollywood has to show adultery time and time again. It's becoming the primary sub-theme to every movie produced. Angelina Jolie put on the most horrible performance ever. All the others in this film were so pathetic as real actors and actresses. I really wish I could sue the Director and Producer. This movie is pure fantasy, for those in the world that are so lost, they don't know God or Jesus at all. Show this in the middle east, and they would burn it. What a terrible waste of time.
Desertman84 Romantic adventure, marital crisis, and the tragedy of global hunger are combined with mixed but respectable results in Beyond Borders. It stars Angelina Jolie in a role that reflects her off-screen efforts as a United Nations goodwill ambassador. She plays a naive American socialite, unhappily married and living in London, whose life is revolutionized when a passionate doctor, played by Clive Owen draws her into the cause of humanitarian aid in the world's most dangerous political hot-spots including Ethiopia, Cambodia and Chechnya in the 1980s and '90s.Linus Roache, Teri Polo and Noah Emmerich co-star in this film directed by Martin Campbell.Sarah Jordan is an American living with her wealthy British husband, Henry Bauford, in London during the early '80s. At a charity benefit, she meets passionate relief worker Nick Callahan, who chastises the rich people for not helping out the needy in war-torn countries. Sarah is quickly compelled to join his humanitarian cause to fight the famine in Ethopia. She then follows him to Cambodia, where they start up a love affair and Nick gets involved in an arms-smuggling operation before they finally end up in Chechnya. This well-meaning film suffers from an identity crisis. Is it a globe-trotting love story?Or is it an impassioned political exposé? But one thing is for sure.It is an old-fashioned romance. The powerful scenes and fine performances can't entirely offset the flaws of the film and the ending is severely lacking.Overall,it is a melodrama with pretensions to humanitarian generosity.
paulinacastejon-1 I thought the story and acting was believable and very moving. Those that thought the romantic chemistry was tepid don't understand love within the context of life's responsibilities and goals that aren't all about you. Some people sacrifice their own passion for the greater good. There is more passion when you have to hold it in your heart and not have everything you want immediately, and you still love each other for many years out of pure respect and admiration. The political side is heartbreaking and very accurate. I teach using this material in my high school history and adult international English classes. My students are always deeply moved by this story and my international students often didn't know about the severity of the political situations before they saw the movie. They loved it as much as I did.
annette-115 I am amazed by this movie - I have never ever seen anything before that touched me this much. Being unable to get the picture out of my head, it has changed my view on fugitives and those who do their out-most to help. First of all, it has changed my perspective on life, thank you for that!!! Secondly it is now perfectly clear to me, why Ms Jolie has chosen to adopt children from Etiophia and Cambodia.I strongly recommend everybody see this movie - when my children are old enough, they will definitely be forced to watch it too. What a great movie and a shining star of an actress!
