This, based on the excellent Batman cartoon by Bruce Timm, is simply brilliant. Batman faces a villain who is almost as smart as he is. The voice cast is one of the best for any cartoon (WB spends money on their voice casts) and the story is engrossing. I could see littler kids being a little creeped out at parts, but this is definitely a love letter to fans.

This is an hour and 15 minute episode of batman the animated series with a little more punch than the t.v episodes,if you watched the show on t.v when you were a kid you remembered the hype.you saw the box at your local video rental store. I'm pretty sure I never watched this as a kid. if I did and forgot. or was not able to follow it because the story wasn't keeping my attention then really not much has changed of course I take note of more detail as an adult.this movie is not bad.but its not pined in my memory bank I cant really remember much to even give a really detailed review. I guess that's not good.but if your a fan of the franchise I say of course watch it. lets like it.its batman the animated series from the 90's.ok so the title the cover mask of the phantasm.great title great poster.but it looks like to me that the main villain in this movie is the joker who is not on the poster or in the title.the phantom guy who isn't a guy is this batman teams production version of a batman villain called the reaper.I cant remember anybody in this movie calling the main new character of this movie by any name you find out that its bruce waynes love interest that he tries to marry.I watched a batman episode in season 4 with a new character called the judge and I'm getting my memory confused with that and this movie because its similar. anyway its lie the title of this review if your a batman fan from the 90's show watch it so you can say that you've seen it.5 stars

When I read the reviews for Batman animated films I have to remember that they are written by people who watch Batman animated films. I don't mean any disrespect, is just that without that bit of context all commentary appears as deluded and mad. The best Batman movie? Well written? Great animation? No, none of the above, unless you count the standard for Batman animation.I always try to grade movies based on their genre. Sure, a 10 star horror is not as good as a 10 star historical drama, but if I were to delve any deeper, say: rate a movie based on other transvestite vampire dramedies I've seen, I would get nowhere. That is why I refuse to compare this with other Batman animated films and instead judge it as a movie. And it is plain silly. It has several major flaws: it reinvents Batman (no more origin stories, puh-lease!), it does the "Batman didn't want to be Batman if he had a chance to be happy" and it brings in the Joker, again, for no good reason. But the worse thing: again with the idea that anyone can just put on a cap and uniform and become a superhero or supervillain. You know who does that and everybody makes fun of them? Policemen. And they are many and are well equipped. You know what really makes Batman a hero? Money. And every Batman movie just drives that point again and again: Batman is good, so it's OK to use company money for his little side game, but coming from the gutter and gaining that same power through violence and tough choices is bad.My conclusion: not even the best animated Batman I've seen. I could feel no empathy towards any of the characters, which is bad, since the plot required me to. The animation was almost bad, as well. Worst of all, the moral of the story doesn't even make sense.

Mask of the Phantasm is Batman the Animated series in the big screen to say the least. The people who make this historic series they were put to made a movie based on the series in order to create demand and profit from the love that children and surprisingly adult show towards it. The production was done in a hurry and lasted only eight months and in Christmas on 1993 it open and flop making only 5,5 million against a budget of 6.I though that like the rest of the animated superhero( before 2004) movies this also was made for television or sold in video form and when I discovered the fact that had a theatrical release then my respect for it went up. In my point of view this is one of the best Batman interpretations and the story, the mystery, the characters work very well and it is an entertaining movie which kids and adults can enjoy. So here comes the question, why did it go so bad?? The answer ,not many went to see it ,I know is inconceivable but those things can occur if you do not make our product known to the public. The Warner Brothers market it for only two weeks before its opening week and remember is 1993 and the internet exist ,but is far from the omega high way of information we all know , and this had as a result many never either learn about it only months or years later when a lot of people rent or buy it of rent shores!!! The saddest part is not that a good Batman movie was overlooked and for a time everyone though that Batman would not be taken seriously after the Schumaker versions came out( lets not talk much about them ,their are maximum awful) but animated superhero films never really took of like their live action counterparts. The reason for that is that after this economic fail ,studios in general stopped investing to them and it does seem that this trend continues, because apart from the Incredibles that came out in 2004 and Big Hero 6 in 2014 ,animated capes and cowls are few and far in between. With the sequel to the Incredibles coming out in 2017 in hope that more movies like that are going to be made and now more than twenty years later I believe that studios have learn their lesson. It speaks for itself the fact that we know about Incredibles 2 a year before it came out. So go want this movie and if you want a second opinion ,trust me has quite a cult following so is not to difficult to find a person to say to you that is good. Have fun :).
