The film starts out with three subplots. We have a newlywed couple who are musicians and killers. There is a second couple with different issues running away from home. And we meet a gay suicidal ex-sheriff. They all gather at a bed and breakfast where we have a non-introduced slasher wearing a mask aka DVD cover. The characters seemed quirky enough. Dan Creed and Ellis Greer had characters that carried the film. The slasher aspect was more like a WTF...seriously? Although it sort of tied into the "theme" and title. Burt Culver had a ridiculously weak character.Good sex scene. Should have left it gone on a few more seconds.Guide: F-word, sex, nudity (Emily Lopato, Tonya Kay with ugly pasties...I think.)

"You should've killed him. Yeah, I know. But it's your turn."At first sight "Bastard" is just another horror of the slasher genre. But with the eccentric characters and their strange behavior, one tries to depart from well-established patterns used in this genre. In the third part of the story they are trying to bring up a very crazy twist. Surprising? Yes. But in my eyes a bit exaggerated and too far-fetched. This was a minor disappointing aspect in "Bastard". The story-line was a bit exorbitant. The first time it was shocking. The next moment it felt pretty laughable.Feel free to call "Bastard" in one breath weird, kooky, and richly overdone. So, if you're looking for a horror with lots of abnormalities, in such amount that you start to wonder if there's anyone sane playing in it, this film is the right thing. The atmosphere feels great from the beginning. A dusty road with two seemingly innocent, stranded tourists hitchhiking. Lets meet Hannah (Ellis Greer) and West (Dan Creed), a newlywed couple. Soon you'll come to the conclusion that they are completely crazy. A kind of a "Natural Born Killers" duo. Especially Hannah is an explosive barrel full of insanity. One wrong word or too much ogling at her richly filled T-shirt is enough to make her explode. The flirtatious behavior of the driver in the car that just stopped, immediately gives rise to a heavy hammer being planted in his forehead (after which the victim is expertly cut into pieces along the way). And thus the tone has been set. After this, the other protagonists are introduced. First West gives two youngsters hitchhiking along the way a ride. Betty (Rebekah Kennedy) and Jake (Will Tranfo) seem to be an innocent-looking couple. But at the same time you know something isn't right. Betty is the somewhat timid shy type, while Jake is the slightly smoother talker. If it was up to Hannah, who thoroughly starts hating the two teenagers from the first moment, they would end up in pieces in the trunk of the car. After this, Michael (Burt Culver) is introduced. A gay police officer with a serious drinking problem and suicidal tendencies. Unfortunately you won't find out why Michael is suicidal. Let alone you will find out why Hannah and West have become such brutal serial killers. Not that it matters, but it would be an interesting addition. The second act takes place in Rachael's (Tonya Kay) bed and breakfast. Rachael is a not so bad-looking hostess who quickly makes it perfectly clear, to Hannah in an explicit verbal way, that she isn't someone to mess around with. Nevertheless an odd way to show hospitality. That same evening Michael warns them that some teenagers have disappeared. That can't prevent them to organize a trek through the forest the next day. Oddity number two. Next we get a sort of "Friday the 13th" where you'll be wondering who'll be the next victim and who's the perpetrator. After seeing the part where the local bartender undergoes a spine transplant, you know what to expect. This fragment also shows the used absurd humor in this film. When the bartender ventured into a romp with his horny girlfriend (enough reason to leave the bar unattended. Oddity number three), you weren't expecting that his girlfriend would pull out a purple strap-on dildo. And even less, that this object would be a convenient means of defense. The denouement in the third act is absolutely bizarre and disturbing. A complete deranged development and disclosure. Something I totally didn't expect. Before I knew it, some deformed nipples were hurled back and forth in front of me and a totally derailed conspiracy was unfolded. But I must admit that it was a highly entertaining movie. Not only because of the bloody and sometimes intense scenes (that spine), but also because of the acting. It was surprisingly well done. Especially between Hannah and West the chemistry was obviously present. And the humor used was rather subtle. The interplay between Ellis Greer and Dan Creed was simply magnificent. Perhaps the end was a bit "over the top". But it surpassed all the typical slashers which are presented nowadays. A must for the fans!More reviews here : http://bit.ly/1KIdQMT

To start off, this has been my first encounter with the writer and director of this film; along with the entire cast from what I can see. After watching Bastard as part of the 8 Films To Die For series with Big Bad Film production; I have come to the conclusion that I definitely want to see more by these two! When the film began I was a little thrown off with the intro, which you can see for yourselves in the film. It was just a different style I haven't been used to seeing and I thought i've seen a lot of styles for movie intros in my addiction to film. As I kept watching I liked how it began. It introduced a few characters, setting up the vibe for the rest of the film. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed in the first introductions. As the film progressed the other characters came into play; some of them had a little back story to them some were mysterious, but all were interesting. Each character had something a little different about them that made each of them stand out on their own. Some were horrifying, some were innocent, some left you to wonder. All made you try to figure out what each of them were capable of.Once all of the characters were brought to life the story continued on a path that left you guessing. This film had more twists than I was expecting. It made me want to follow certain characters, leading you one direction and distracting you from others. But at the same time not distracting you. To some that may not make sense but to make good twists you really need to throw some curve balls to deliver; and this film as done that rather well.I enjoyed the fact that from what I saw, the use of practical effects was greatly emphasized. Time and effort was placed in these gags, and some surprise props will leave you laughing out loud and wondering what in the world. The acting was pretty good, each actor seemed to really put some heart and sole into their characters; some better than others, however, none left you saying that person is a bad actor. From the main characters to the small roles, everyone put a good effort into their parts. Most, if not all, of these actors I don't believe I've seen before. But I for sure would love to see some of them again in future films I watch. The film as a whole was easy to follow in my opinion. Sure, it has twists and turns but nothing seemed out of place. I really enjoyed the lighting and tone changes. From the music that seemed to go very well together to the cinematography. Everything seemed to flow together pretty smoothly.Overall: This film is worth seeing, it was done well. It had all the elements you'd want in a horror movie, and no sense of being too cheesy was witnessed in this film. Some cheesiness was included but necessary. It did what is was designed to do; entertain, horrify, wonder, confusion, enjoy, thrill, re-think and be thirsty for more. A few minor tweaks and this film would be perfect! Definitely deserves the 9/10 though for sure.Check it out!! You won't be disappointed. Great job to all involved!

While it was okay, half the time I couldn't make out what half the props were in this movie. I would have rated it higher if I understood the ending. Who were the people at the picnic table? Who was the little girl? Who got killed? And who were they killed by? Really? I can't find this explanation anywhere. This is the 4th movie I had to go search online for an explanation of the ending. Do writers not care about endings? It dragged for a bit then late in the game the killings started around the B&B. And when they came, they came fast. How did the short haired chick survive a gunshot among other things to get to the last girl? And where did the hammer come from? Hmm. Too many questions while watching this.
