I watched the movie as kid. I loved it too. The memories and the nostalgia in Bharbie movies make me happy

My personal favourites are Nutcracker, Diamond Castle and The Prince and the Pauper, but while one of my least favourites of the Barbie movies Mariposa is not bad. The writing is rather cheesy and the bad guys are rather ugly in design and while most Barbie movies had a balance of humour, fantasy and scary moments(without being too scary) these bunch of characters alone I think will frighten very young kids, especially if it's their first Barbie movie. And while it has a good message and is cute and charming mostly, the storytelling did feel rushed, perhaps with a longer length this may have been prevented, also there are some ideas that seemed to have been taken from other Barbie movies such as the magic flower thing in Fairytopia. The animation however is quite pretty, not as stunning as Diamond Castle for instance but fluid and colourful enough, and the music is catchy. The characters apart from the bad guys are sweet and likable, the annoying Zinzy excepted, with Mariposa easy to relate to, and the voice acting is solid, I personally would've preferred Kelly Sheridan for Mariposa but her voice actress here was still good, nice and youthful. Overall, not one of the better ones but not a waste of time. 6/10 Bethany Cox

I adore kids movies, 36 going on 11 I am :) I loved the idea of butterfly fairies, very pretty and their lands were lovely, as were the lights and the Queen. Wonderful animation and the voice overs were great. I liked Chiara Zanni as Mariposa, young and innocent sounding and Alessandro Juliani was wonderful as always! He has such a lovely voice! I liked Mariposa's character, a lot - a dreamer like me and like me, she likes her books and longs for adventure...However the names could have been better chosen. Mariposa, to me sounds like a name for a much older character and Henna ... really ... now all the kids are going to think because there was an evil fairy called Henna that henna is bad (Henna is a natural product used to make safe, natural hair and body dyes and other health products) We-hey! Way to go! (Note sarcasm) As if kids don't get enough junk stuff! My other major beef were the bad things (won't say bad guys as they hardly qualify)... Were really stupid looking and so idiotic, even if I was a kid it'd been impossible to find them scary. They were truly pathetic. They were too slow, fat and bulky to even catch the fairies, and what atrocious writing! ... They *eat* butterfly fairies??? As if they would show that in a kids movie ... It would have been more realistic if they caught the fairies to drain their fairy powers, fairy magic or their energy or something of that nature - still nasty, but more believable for a kids show.I hope the future Barbie flicks will be as good in animation, voice and story, but more believable characters. And better names!

Wow, talk about a movie that just lacked about everything. But I will give it this - they didn't waste a lot of money on animators or acting talent. Although I am of the opinion that somebody like Jodi Benson could have at least made things more bearable.Anyway, here it goes. It wasn't really good on any level. The CGI was shoddy and was sub-standard to even the 1995 levels of "Toy Story". You would think they would be at least that good. Nope.Second, the story. Haven't we all heard of the 'poisoning (fill in the blank) will lead to a better...' storyline in fantasies? Nothing original here. And that isn't even talking about the lack of character development. Then comes the grumpy looking creatures that, for some reason, can't stand light. Were they supposed to be evil? No clue here. But they sure don't put up a fight.Even for kids, this was bad. Just because you put the word "Barbie" on it doesn't mean it deserves a kid's time. "F"
